This contest is for a fantasy novel cover. Please see the contest rules posted below before submitting.

Title: The Black Rook
Author: Davey Cobb
Publisher: Science Fiction and Fantasy Publications

The Black Rook is a historical fantasy novel by Davey Cobb, published by Science Fiction and Fantasy Publications. The book covers the journey of Baron Hanzus as he attempts to track down the person who poisoned his father. The Black Rook is a tavern at a cross roads between civilizations.

Concepts to possibly look at:

1 - A stormy sea with the image of a black rook chess piece looming in the background
2 - The inside of a tavern with a black rook chess piece looming in the background
3 - The outside of a tavern with a black rook chess piece on a sign with a shadowy figure
4 - Any imagery you think would portray a good fantasy novel - keep the theme of a back rook chess piece

Included in this contest:
1 - PDF of blank cover template
2 - PNG of publisher's logo

Contest Rules:

All artwork used must be either created by you or you must have already secured the right to use
All artwork used that is not your own original work must be designated in your submission with a link to the work for copyright verification
There is an ISBN area on the PDF template that cannot be covered. It is designated with the letters ISBN and a barcode and code under it. Do not cover it.
The publisher logo must appear on the back and spine of the cover orientated horizontally
The cover must be one continuous image from edge to edge, or blended seamlessly
Only post the flat image of the full cover to the contest - no artboard or 3D representations accepted
Do not message the contest poster - There is more than enough information listed for a submission to be made
Do not post in the comment area asking for the contest poster to look at your submission - it is rude and can get your submission disqualified.
If you have a question concerning the contest, post it in the questions are only, I will answer it within 24 hours

Can I use copyrighted images?
Yes, but you must have already secured the rights to use the images prior to submitting to the contest

Can you guarantee the contest?
Not unless you can guarantee that at least one submission would be worthy of winning it. Do your best, and if it is good for the cover of the novel, it will be picked.

I have a question concerning this contest. Can I message you directly?
No. If you have a question, then post it in the contest discussion area.

I don't want to supply the full cover for the contest, just the front. Is that okay?
No. If you only supply the front cover for the contest, or use artboard layout, or a 3D model, you will be disqualified.

Are you supplying a writeup about the novel for the back?
No. Do not add anything to the back cover except the publishers logo in the lower left corner. We'll add the writeup once the cover is picked.

The contest will be closing in a day. At that time, I'll be talking with the author about the cover art supplied. Both of us are leaning toward the original artwork covers supplied.

Over the last week, I have deleted comments in this area asking me to look at their submission. Those who posted have had their submissions rejected for not following the guidelines. Others have not supplied likes to the images they used, which is not following the guidelines as well. Several used copyrighted images, which caused their submissions to be rejected and reported to Freelancer.

The cover image we select will be decided on by Monday, and the winning artist rewarded. For those who followed the guidelines and received a rating for their work, thank you for participating in the project. Unfortunately, there can only be one winner.
