The Challenge

We want a hand drawn logo created for our new company. The name of the company is DT Aquarium.

We’re a small business run by people with a love of the beauty of tropical fish (freshwater and saltwater) and have enjoyed the hobby for over 40 years. The logo should be inclusive of both freshwater and marine fish and coral.

We don't want to put any restrictions on the logo design. It's a new store with strong existing competition. We plan to not only compete in the local Toronto, Canada market, but also compete online throughout Canada and the United States.

We’ll have a strong online presence with superb client service both in person and virtually. We want to be a little old school in terms of really getting to know our clients personally, and at the same time be at the forefront of the latest trends and technology for the aquarium trade.

We will cater to clients that have just a simple aquarium with the most basic of set-ups to the super large, 1000+ gallons with the best and newest bells and whistles.

We want to appeal to multiple target audiences:

1) People that love the hobby and have been involved in it for years and years like us and are interested in adding new species to their collection.

2) For the occasional hobbyist. Those that enjoy having a tank in their home because of the beauty and serenity the hobby brings them.

3) Net New. We also want to attract people that are not in the hobby currently but are interested and would like to learn more and decide if they want to enter more gradually.

As far as “tone and manner” we want to come off as a friendly, family-oriented company and super knowledgeable, providing tips and tricks that even some pros may not be familiar with.

We’re excited to work with customers who have the most complex aquariums, the just curious client, or rookies as stated. We want to cater to both the budget conscious consumer, the trend conscious crowd who will travel to our store or shop long distance, and everyone in between.

We believe in being honest with our clients and want to create and build “customers” for life.

We believe that sharing information and knowledge of the industry helps it grow and helps maintain sustainable practices. We believe in offering our clients fair competitive market prices, we believe in welcoming everyone into our store to browse, shop, buy, or just ask questions and we want to come across as having honorable sales practices.

Customer satisfaction is key to our success.

We want to build a brand that people can love, trust and rely on for years!

One key ask is that the logo design be super cool yet at the same time can be used and is effective in both color and black and white, online and in print and allows potential customers to immediately know what kind of business we are.

We know our FRESHWATER FISH and SALTWATER FISH and CORALS and the ultimate goal (aside from sales of
course) is to become a destination.

I have some question.... I am not a fish expert...but whats the difference of freshwater fish and marine fish?
you said you want the logo to reflect freshwater and saltwater fishes and coral?...does this mean that you expect at least three element in your logo? and this will lead to the third question...for sure we are talking about iconic logo...not just some fancy text logo....right?

  Marine fish come from the ocean. Freshwater fish come from lakes and streams. Examples of freshwater fish are guppies, goldfish, betas. Marine or saltwater fish would be clownfish, lion fish, blue tang (Dory)
