  The contest is starting to look like a two-horse race between #19 nitinatom and #20 SadunKodaGoda. There's a lot that's great about their designs, but their designs have some common flaws: (1) they haven't nailed down the middle section yet; (2) they haven't submitted designs of all five pages of the website; and (3) they use pictures with people in them. Alternative designs would be welcome.

  Please see revised contest brief. I was making similar design comments to several folks, and I wanted everyone to get on the same page.
  CRITICAL CLARIFICATIONS:
  (1) how the middle section of the wireframe (the 3 boxes) appears and works is the key to winning this competition;
  (2) the website should be short from top to bottom (in unexpanded state) -- when it opens, the following must appear onscreen on a 13" laptop -- (a) firm name; (b) featured practices areas (the 3 boxes); (c) ability to access the separate Bio and Contact pages; (d) ability to access information about Practices areas and Industry Experience.
  (3) The lists for my Practice Areas and Industry Experience should not appear on the Home page -- they need to appear on separate pages or in expanded states.

  Entry #1 is just too simple a design.
  
  Likes:
  1. The box which the cursor is hovering over gets some visual highlighting, and you have to click to get to the expanded state. (I.e., expanded states are triggered by a mouse click.)
  2. The expanded state's runs across the full width of the website, and push everything else down.
  
  Dislikes:
  1. Design execution is much simpler than I imagined, and colorless.
  2. There don't need to be actual boxes around the logo space, the three middle boxes, etc.
  3. There should be two things in the "Other Stuff" space in the wireframe -- text stating "Practice Areas" and text stating "Industry Experience." That's it. When the cursor hovers over these areas, the text should get highlighted. When the text is clicked, a separate page should be accessed, or there should be expanded states, or something else should happen ... it's up to the designer to determine the best way to present that supplemental content. (It's part of the competition.)

  1. Buttons on bottom well laid out. YouTube not needed.
  2. Font selection is poor -- formal fonts only (more professional).
  3. Horizontal layout is unbalanced within sections.
  4. Emphasize content of three boxes more -- that's the key part of the website (see revised brief). Need expanded states.
  5. Pictures of people other than me aren't helpful or necessary.
