Rosa Miniatures and Games has been commissioned to produce a game that will feature Steam Automatons (robots) set in the Victorian Age. Think HG Wells and Jules Verne" steam engines, pistons and gears. All models need to fit on a 45mm diameter base and be no taller that 65mm. We are looking for three very different models / concepts and will award three prizes. This contest is for a Crab like walker (6 to 8 legs / claws) we are really open to your artistic creations. Selected models will need to be meet 3D production standards (I would read Shapeways guidelines) and be delivered in a STL file (production) and a rendering (for advertising).

There has been some question as to what an Automaton is. This term was used to describe "robots" run using analog computers. I have attached to concepts: one from the 1890's Sci-Fi book and the other a scratch built model. The images are of bipedal walkers. This contest is for a multi-leg "crab like" creation.

The purpose of this contest is for me to evaluate artist for a future bid on large number of Automatons

We are having a very vigorous debate here. The author of the game is AWOL.

The game has a number of different type and levels of Automatons: There are "humanoid" scouts and heavy war machines that is why I left the contest open. In addition I have another Steam Punk game by a different author and he has very strong opinions. Machine in his game would be manned vehicles.

So, do you need a 3d model for just 3d printing or for more purposes, also if only for 3d printing is texturing and detailing necessary or not.

  I am sorry for the delay in getting back to you; had a family issue. We will be producing a game next year and intend to manufacture the parts using new resin based 3D printers. The resolution is very high on these machines and the cost is reasonable.

Hi,

This is a really great contest. And I would love to participate.
Unfortunately at a 150 dollar price I just can not bother.
Expecting top quality steam punk design from scratch plus delivery and renders for this kind of money is fairly unrealistic.

At least 500 dollar would be acceptable I guess. And even extra for delivery and finishing.
The higher the money the bigger the change you have for quality entries.

All this aside I genuinely wish you good luck with your contests.

  Thank you for your comments. The purpose of this contest is to locate some artist for this project which will have around 30 models. As an employer all I see are portfolios, which usually feature websites, cartoons or buildings. I also have had problems in the past with artist that do not understand 3D printing limitations; their artwork if far more detailed than the printers can reproduce.
  As for the Prize Award: I see your point. I based the prize on the similar contest posted in the past.
