Tóm tắt cuộc thi

Thank you to all the entries to the original contest. Based on your creativity, we have some comments on the aspects we liked and have decided to extend the contest (which is now guaranteed).

We liked symbols with: a) hexagons (as often used for R software packages), b) globes, and c) the butterfly Ornithoptera croesus (Wallace’s golden birdwing). Use of points (to signify locality records of a species) was nice, but lines connecting them detracted from that message. We appreciated entries that used the colors we indicated in the challenge.

The logo should be suitable both for printing and for use on the software itself. We suggest that each entry include both a symbol that can stand alone as well as text (e.g., Wallace) in a selected typeface that can accompany the symbol when desired. "EcoMod" is less important than "Wallace". The symbol needs to be scalable (so that at least one version can be used when it is reduced substantially).

We have provided specific comments on a few entries we felt had particular potential.

****ORIGINAL POST BELOW****

We seek talented and creative graphic designers with an eye for detail to create a logo for our software.

“Wallace EcoMod” is a software for user-friendly ecological modeling developed with funding from NASA and the U.S. National Science Foundation. Wallace is named after Alfred Russel Wallace, a contemporary of Darwin and considered the founder of the field of biogeography. Our platform provides a graphical user interface (GUI) that makes state-of the-art techniques accessible to users without having to rely on computer coding skills. Specifically, Wallace is used by scientists and students to predict species geographic ranges, with many applications for ecology and conservation biology.

We seek a logo that has the versatility to be used in print and digital formats for a variety of purposes including presentations, posters, and flyers. We are open to receiving logotype and/or logomark entries. Preference will be given to logos with typefaces and color schemes that resemble or evoke the GUI [dark orange (#DD4814) to teal (#699FA1)].

We encourage participants to use biogeography and Alfred Russel Wallace’s contributions to the field as inspiration.

Although the contest will be open for 30 days, we plan to begin reviewing entries after 15 days.
