Brief: The goal is to gather ideas for a company logo that is distinctive and contemporary, is stylish but means business and works across media and platforms. The company's main business is web development, digital media production and corporate branding. This competition is an experiment to see if we can expand our creative base through the use of Freelancers. We will award $60 to the best entry, whether we use it or not. We are looking for top quality work and professional standards. If there are other outstanding entries we may also make a small gratuity payment and come back to commission work from you at a later date.

Technical specs. We prefer you to work the way you normally do, so the designs can be scanned hand drawings, created in photoshop, illustrator or any other visual format but should be delivered as a transparent .png so we can try it against several colour backgrounds. The final winning entry will need to complete the design as a vector graphic, in .svg .ai formats so we can tweak and edit later. The copyright will transfer to us on payment. The design draft can use commercial fonts from sources like myfonts.com which we will license afterwards at our own expense if we use the design, but we are not necessarily looking for a logotype or pure graphic design. Originality is appreciated.

The company name is Rowtown

We are not going to prescribe any particular type of logo or swatches, we will leave this to your imagination but again we are judging how distinctive, contemporary, stylish but business-like it is. We would also like you to remember that a logo will need to appear (in some clearly related form) as small as a 16x16 pixel favicon, and across all types of modern media formats and technical platforms. So you may want to submit a favicon and larger version to demonstrate your skill.

We understand why many people are now trying to submit logos that are similar to the top 2 - with a city sky-line, but we have not awarded anyone 4 stars yet so this may not be the best idea. Unless it is an extraordinary new take on the city skyline theme (very original) it is unlikely to be judged to be more original than the ones already rated. There are some very nice ideas in here, thank you all for your time.

  As long as you can export it in a format I can import into Adobe Illustrator - EPS for example then yes. At this stage we are just looking for original ideas from talented people.

Just so you understand the existing standard of work from our company, here are our last few logo designs. See the ICBE logo at the bottom of this page, and the IBYC logo in the top and middle of the page. http://benedictineyouth.org - This is a draft design we are working on for a client. This is a corporate branding we recently completed. http://manor-sales.co.uk , and this http://www.stpaulscofe.org . You can also see our existing logo to the left. All of these should give you an idea of the standard of work required.

Thanks for the entries so far. Comic Sans and similar fonts are never a good idea in a logo. Some of these have interesting design elements, two of them are professional standard first drafts. I think the winner will still be out there and giving this some more thought.
