I am planning on making a mosaic tile panel for my sister as a housewarming gift, and I'm looking for help creating the design/template so it can look as good as possible, and because I've been having difficulty with the transition from normal image to tile image. The idea is that she can hang the panel in her new house, and I'm thinking most likely the kitchen. I have a wood piece already for the mosaic to be set in, and its dimensions are 17.5" x 4.5" so it is a long rectangle shape.

For the design itself, the only thing that is absolutely mandatory is that it must include a rooster. A realistic rooster is better than cartoonish. Other than that, I'm hoping for something with a nice border pattern, a simple background pattern or landscape, and a design that focuses on the green, yellow and deep red colors that roosters often have. The height only being 4.5" also makes things a bit trickier because the tiles can only get so small if the design is going to remain plausible for me to put together. If the size makes it too difficult I'm open to trying another size (I can get wood cut to match any size), but I'd prefer it to keep it as is if possible.

The design itself could be 3 separate square panels each containing a rooster, or it could be a rooster with a landscape and sunset in the background, etc. I really don't care, as long as it looks good and is plausible for making in tile. One idea that I have, but don't know how good it would look, would be to have the rooster to one side, then the other 2/3rds of the panel could say "Laura's Kitchen" or "Laura's Home" something like that. (In case anyone is inspired to include some words, my sister's name is Laura, her husband is Ned) She prefers more rustic or traditional themes as opposed to modern or super bright and colorful, so keep that in mind when designing. I like the idea of using long jagged tiles for the rooster's feathers, then more standard tile shapes in the background.

I have a lot of time to do this so it's ok if it's complicated, but it needs to be a plausible design for making a tile mosaic, and the tile chunks must be included in your design for me to accept it. For example, the design should give a general idea of where all the tiles will be placed so I can follow the pattern and find, shape, and place the tiles all myself. Keep in mind as well that there will be space between the tiles where there is grout.

To summarize, I am looking for a rooster themed mosaic tile pattern/template that will cover an area of 17.5 x 4.5 inches. It may include words such as "Laura and Ned" or "Laura's Kitchen" etc. but this is not necessary. It should focus in general on greens, reds, tans, and yellows, though color is not as important as the shapes and layout because I will be tweaking colors based on the tiles I find and have available. I should be able to print out the design to scale and begin placing tiles directly on the design, following it as a template. Simple black and white outline templates that give me only a general outline of shapes and tiles may be accepted, though in this case a companion image showing general color schemes would be helpful. Don't worry about being too detailed, I can figure things out if given a good enough idea.

I have attached some pictures of rooster mosaics that I found doing a simple google search just to give an idea of what I'm thinking.
