I’m developing a dedicated handheld that will operate offline. No Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular, or any other radio is required, so the entire design has to function in isolation. Because of that restriction I’m open to whichever operating system keeps the footprint light and the boot time quick, whether that’s a stripped-down Android build with networking stacks removed or a fully custom OS. but more likely just on/off. then a button to run. Your task is to take the idea from concept to a working prototype. I’ll need the electronic design (schematic, PCB layout, and component selection), a daylight-readable display, a rechargeable battery able to power at least eight hours of continuous use.. Low power consumption, immediate on/off and rock-solid stability. Deliverables • Complete bill of materials and Gerber files ready for fabrication • Firmware / OS image with reproducible build instructions • 3D-printable enclosure files • Step-by-step flashing and assembly guide • One post-delivery revision round based on test feedback Acceptance criteria: an assembled prototype that powers on, launches the demo app in under five seconds, and runs for eight hours on a single charge, all with radios fully disabled. If you’ve previously built low-power products—please share examples. I’m excited to see how you’d bring this offline handheld to life.

Hi, I’m very interested in developing your offline handheld device from concept through to a working prototype. My background covers embedded electronics, PCB design, firmware development, power management, and mechanical/product integration, which fits well with the complete scope of this project. I can handle the full development cycle, including: - Component selection, schematic and production-ready PCB layout - Low-power architecture and rechargeable battery/power management design - Daylight-readable display and simple physical button interface - Embedded firmware/OS selection optimized for fast boot and stability - Complete BOM, Gerbers, source files and reproducible firmware build - 3D-printable enclosure and mechanical integration - Flashing, assembly and step-by-step documentation - Prototype testing against the <5-second startup and 8-hour runtime targets Since wireless connectivity is unnecessary, I would prioritize a lightweight embedded architecture rather than adding the overhead of Android unless the application requirements justify it. I can also ensure all radio-capable components are omitted or permanently disabled. I have experience developing low-power embedded and IoT hardware using STM32, ESP32, nRF52, custom PCBs, battery-powered systems, and production-oriented electronics. I’d be happy to review your functional requirements and propose the most suitable hardware architecture before starting. Best regards,

Hi, I can help you turn this ANC + echo-reduction concept into a compact, prototype-ready electronics module. I have 10+ years of experience in PCB design, embedded electronics, signal processing, and hardware development. I can work with you on the feed-forward, feedback, or hybrid ANC topology before moving into the schematic and PCB. I’ll focus on achieving 20 dB+ attenuation across 50 Hz–2 kHz while keeping latency below 10 ms. SPICE and MATLAB/Simulink can be used to validate the design before hardware prototyping. The selectable delta, alpha, omega, beta, and brain-wave signal modes can also be integrated as configurable options. I’ll provide the complete schematic, PCB layout, Gerbers/ODB++, BOM, and performance documentation. I can start immediately and work milestone-by-milestone from schematic → PCB → testing.

This project sounds very similar to a product I’ve developed called ChipServer, a pocket sized device with all day performance. I can produce exactly what you are looking for, prototyping it in-house and then sending out for PCB production and assembly. I also design and fabricate casings, to provide a polished prototype and final design. I look forward to hearing more about your project! Thanks, Christopher Howell-Palenske

Hi, For the requirements you described, I would avoid a stripped-down Android/Linux system unless the final application genuinely needs that complexity. If the device primarily powers on and runs one dedicated function, a low-power MCU with bare-metal firmware or a lightweight RTOS gives us faster startup, lower consumption and fewer failure points. I would design the product from the power budget outward: display, processor, battery/charger, controls and required interfaces first, followed by schematic, PCB, firmware and enclosure. I would also select hardware with no integrated wireless radios where practical, rather than relying only on software-disabled Wi-Fi/Bluetooth. Deliverables would include native schematic/PCB files, Gerbers, BOM, firmware/build instructions, enclosure CAD, flashing/assembly documentation and prototype validation against the sub-5-second startup and 8-hour runtime requirements.

I've spent 20+ years taking embedded products from concept to a working board: schematic, PCB layout, component selection, firmware, and the low-power tradeoffs that decide whether a handheld runs all day. The part that decides this build is the power and boot budget: a daylight-readable display, eight hours on one charge, and a sub-five-second launch all pull against each other, so display, SoC and OS get picked together. - OS chosen against your real workload: a stripped Android with networking removed, or a minimal custom image; with on/off then one button to run, a small MCU or SoC image usually boots faster and lasts longer - Daylight-readable display (transflective or high-nit) sized to the power budget - Battery and power path sized for eight hours continuous, with real current measurements - All radios physically unpopulated or held in reset, so isolation is by design - Deliverables as listed: BOM and Gerbers ready to fab, firmware or OS image with reproducible build steps, 3D-printable enclosure, flashing and assembly guide, one revision round I keep to the schedule we set, communicate clearly across the time difference, and manage the build so the electronics, firmware and enclosure land together rather than in pieces. You get one point of contact who owns the whole path to a working prototype. I can start right away.

✅ Offline Handheld Device – Hardware & Embedded Development ✅ I can take this handheld from concept through a functional prototype, covering the electronics, embedded software, power design, and enclosure. I’d start by selecting a suitable low-power MCU/SoC and daylight-readable display based on the actual application requirements, then design the schematic, component selection, PCB, battery/charging circuitry, power management, and physical interfaces. Since no wireless connectivity is required, the design can be intentionally simplified by eliminating radios and unnecessary networking components from the hardware/software stack. For the software side, I’d favor the lightest reliable architecture capable of launching the demo application quickly, with an emphasis on deterministic startup, low power consumption, stability, and simple on/off operation. The eight-hour runtime would be validated against measured power consumption rather than theoretical battery capacity. Deliverables would include the BOM, fabrication-ready Gerbers, firmware/OS image with reproducible build instructions, 3D-printable enclosure files, flashing and assembly documentation, and the agreed revision round. I’d be happy to review the demo application's requirements and define the hardware architecture around them.
