Hi, 90s goosebumps covers had a very specific look: glossy, saturated skin, hard rim lights and building an uncanny feeling by twisting familiar figures. That's the mood I'd go after and it's the kind of brief I'd happily lose a weekend to. Plus I'm a horror fan myself and I always consume horror/creepy/morbid media in my personal time. I work in Photoshop with soft-edge/stencil/air-brush brushes. The surreal part comes from the character design itself: a familiar shape with a few wrong details, like a ventriloquist dummy with creepy facial features, a slimy underwater creature that has the looks of an old man, a humanoid model with creepy body features wearing a smiling cute mask, junji ito inspired humans with surreal body features( like a spiraling hole through the head), lovecraftian shoggoth-like blob, man in suit but the head and limps are from a new born baby bird and there are slime and pieces of eggshell around the suit etc... I'm mainly a character artist so I can even provide you complete build of game-ready 3d characters of the concepts I paint first.
