I have a working script to build 3D model using a number of sequential grabbed point clouds. I use Open3D to align clouds and build the model. This works fine for any number of point clouds - usually between 16 and 96. However, the time taken increases almost linearly with the number of point clouds so that at 96 it goes to 6 minutes or more on an i5 PC. I want to reduce the time to within 2 minutes. The task is to use multi processing (or any other mechanism) to reduce the time to under 2 minutes. I need the 3D model creation with Python.

Hai, the fact is you are using it on cpu which is causing such delay. I can migrate your python code to gpu and do multiprocessing on the functions that tend to run on GPU I think that can reduce the time drastically. Looking for a meeting where i can provide you more details.

Have worked intensely with Open3d for lidar projects, not sure where you are running this , if its on CPU or GPU. Second, could be an issue related to code optimization. While MP/Threading/Raycasting etc can be done, but we need to look at entire pipeline for identifying bottleneck in project. You are talking about 96 point clouds here, so obviously your data is very big and most probably your RAM is completely sucked by program. Not sure how much time it may take, but gave rough idea of cost, may be higher than that.
