The project is not intended to redesign the controller. The objective is to preserve the PS Nav experience as closely as possible while modernizing its functionality and reliability. Core Design Philosophy: The controller must retain the original PS Nav shape, grip angle, and thumbstick placement. The thumbstick location is the most important feature and must remain unchanged. The stick should remain in the same top-mounted position as the original PS Nav rather than adopting Xbox, PlayStation, Joy-Con, or Azeron-style layouts. The controller should feel immediately familiar to an existing PS Nav user. Required Features: 1. Original PS Nav Shell or Accurate Replica * Maintain original dimensions whenever possible. * Preserve grip shape. * Preserve button placement. * Preserve overall hand positioning. 2. Modern Thumbstick Replace the original PS3-era thumbstick with a modern Hall Effect joystick. Requirements: * Hall Effect technology preferred. * Improved durability. * Reduced drift potential. * Standard controller thumbstick dimensions. * Compatible with common thumbstick accessories if possible. * Slightly taller than the original PS Nav stick is acceptable. 3. Improved Trigger Replace original trigger switch with a modern mouse-style microswitch. Requirements: * Crisp activation. * Reduced travel distance. * Fast reset. * Similar feel to modern gaming mice. 4. Improved Bumper Replace original bumper switch with a modern mouse-style microswitch. Requirements: * Tactile click. * Low force activation. * Fast response. 5. Rear Paddle Add one rear paddle accessible by the middle or ring finger. Requirements: * Easy activation without changing grip. * Positioned naturally on rear grip. * Independent remappable input. This is considered one of the highest-priority upgrades. 6. Additional Face Button Add one additional face button. Requirements: * Reachable by thumb. * Must not interfere with existing X and O buttons. * Should feel like a natural extension of the original layout. 7. USB-C Replace original charging/data connection. Requirements: * USB-C port. * Reliable wired operation. * Charging support if wireless. 8. PC Compatibility Primary target platform is Windows PC. Success Criteria: A successful build should feel like: "What Sony would have released if they made a PS Navigation Controller 2 in 2026."
