Since the whole point is that it drops into the approval process without rework, the two things that usually get an estimate sent back are worth naming. Units first. Schedule of Rates items are priced per cum, sqm, RMT, quintal and so on, and each item code carries its own unit. The common failure is a quantity measured in one unit against a rate quoted in another. The arithmetic is then perfectly correct and the amount is wrong, and nothing in the sheet flags it. So the unit gets validated against the item code rather than assumed, and mismatches are made visible instead of silently multiplied. Second, rounding. Departments round at set stages, usually at item amount and again at sub-total. If the workbook only rounds at the end, the grand total lands a few rupees away from the department's own figure, and that is enough to send it back. I match your convention exactly rather than letting Excel decide. Built formula driven with rates in a separate master sheet and items looked up against it, so a rate revision recalculates instead of being retyped.
