Short Video Cutting & Trim

@danino29

One to five minutes is quick work, mostly about knowing where to cut without killing the flow. I'll keep original resolution and codec intact and hand back both the render and the project file, Premiere or Resolve, whichever fits your workflow. I usually send a first rough cut fast so you can flag any pacing calls before the final pass. Audio sync stays locked throughout. Is the clip one continuous take, or several pieces stitched together?

straightforward job, so let me be useful about the one decision inside it rather than pad this out. trimming dead space is easy. deciding what counts as dead is the part that changes the result. long pauses, restarts and filler words are obvious. what people usually cut and should not is the half second of silence after a point lands, because that beat is what makes the point register. cut every gap and the clip becomes relentless and oddly tiring to watch, which is the usual outcome of tight editing done mechanically. so unless you tell me otherwise i cut for breathing rather than for the shortest possible runtime, and i will flag anything i was unsure about removing so you can put it back. two practical things. if the audio has room tone, cutting leaves audible jumps between takes, so the background needs bridging or the cuts announce themselves. and if this is going to social, the opening seconds matter more than anything else in the clip, so the strongest moment usually belongs at the front rather than wherever it happened to occur. send it over with a note on where it is going. what is the clip for, and is there a target length?

@providenceoghal3

"No effects, transitions, or colour work required" sounds like the easy version of an edit, but it's actually the harder one. Every cut has nothing to hide behind, no transition to smooth over an awkward jump, no color grade to distract from a pause that ran a beat too long. A trim job like this lives or dies entirely on timing. Here's how this will run. The full clip gets watched through first at normal speed before any cutting starts, marking dead space, unwanted sections, and pacing that drags, since editing straight off a timeline without that first pass is how small sync issues get introduced later. Cuts get placed on natural breath points or scene beats rather than mid-word or mid-motion, so the flow feels continuous rather than visibly trimmed. Audio and video stay linked through every cut, checked afterward by watching the full edit back start to finish rather than trusting the timeline display, since sync drift often only shows up on playback. Final render comes back in the original resolution and codec, untouched otherwise, alongside the editable project file in whichever software was used. Once the clip comes through, is there a rough target length you're aiming for after the trim, or should the length come out wherever the tightest version naturally lands?

@HuzaifaCodes
