AI Itinerary Planning Engine

I want to build an AI-driven travel planner that can take a traveller’s basic inputs—destinations, trip dates, interests, rough budget—and instantly return a complete, day-by-day itinerary. The core of the project is the recommendation engine: it should weigh distance, opening hours, seasonal events, user preferences, and real-time data (weather, crowd levels, price fluctuations) to sequence sights, meals, and downtime logically. Key expectations • End-to-end coverage: the AI must generate the full trip itinerary in one go, not isolated hotel or activity snippets. • Personalisation: allow sliders or simple questions for pace (relaxed vs. packed), dietary needs, must-see spots, and preferred daily start/finish times. • Data sources: feel free to combine GPT-style semantic search with hard data from APIs such as Google Places, OpenTripMap, Skyscanner, Amadeus, or Rome2Rio for transport estimates. • Output format: JSON and a lightweight web UI that turns the JSON into an interactive timeline the traveller can drag-and-drop to tweak. • Tech stack: Python or Node.js for the backend, React or Vue for the front end are fine; I’m open to alternatives if they speed up delivery and keep future maintenance simple. Deliverables 1. Brief architecture diagram and tech choices rationale 2. Clean, well-commented source code in a Git repo 3. Setup instructions and short Loom video demo 4. A sample itinerary for a seven-day multi-city trip to prove the logic Acceptance criteria • Generating a usable seven-day plan takes under 30 seconds. • At least three APIs are successfully integrated for live data. • Swapping dates or adding a new city automatically reoptimises the schedule without crashes. Once the prototype is stable I’ll handle UI polish and marketing; your focus is the smart itinerary engine and a functional demo interface.
