Scheduling: it runs unattended on your server through cron or a systemd timer, whichever you already use. On price data a zero is worse than a missing row, because it drags every average and trend line you look at afterwards, and nothing anywhere says something went wrong. So each run gets validated before it is allowed to write: expected field count, prices inside a sane band against yesterday, row count in range. If it fails, no report is written and you get told. A late report beats a confidently wrong one. Second, because you want to track movements rather than just today's number, the archive matters more than the scraper. Every run gets stored as its own timestamped immutable snapshot, never an overwrite of a current-state table. That way you can always reconstruct what the price actually was on any past date, which is the whole point, and it also means a bad run can be discarded without losing history. Third, an unattended schedule needs a heartbeat. If it silently stops for a week you are making decisions on stale numbers without knowing it. So a no-data alert, not just an error alert. writing the scraper is the easy half. keeping it correct is the job, and that is where most of these quietly fail. the failure mode that matters for pricing decisions: the site changes its markup, the scraper keeps running, and it returns either nothing or the wrong field without erroring. you carry on reading numbers that stopped updating days ago and make a call on them. so what i build watches itself. it validates that each pull actually parsed the expected fields, compares against the previous run, and alerts you when the shape changes or the data goes suspiciously static. a scraper without that is a liability rather than an asset. second: store history, not just the latest snapshot. you asked to stay ahead of pricing movements and inventory changes, and movement only exists if yesterday was kept. that decides the database design from day one and is painful to retrofit. third, and worth raising rather than discovering later: check the site's terms. public and permitted are not the same thing, and rate limiting yourself politely is both the decent approach and the one that keeps access working. i would rather agree that with you up front than have the source block us in week three. which fields matter most to you, and how often do you actually need them refreshed? that decides whether this is a light scheduled job or something more careful.
