We have a requirement for registering domains in a quicker and more streamlined fashion than the traditional method. Normally, you would have to check availability, fill in a lengthy form, skip through pages of advertising, and so forth. Utilizing an API removes this lengthy process, and replaces it with simply parsing a short list of fields into a single URL.
The piece of windows or web-based software which we would like to develop is a simple front-end which allows us to enter a domain name, and to select a time and date in GMT format. This will then be scheduled and the command sent on that specific time and date, as quickly as possible and as many times required until the domain is registered successfully.
The system will need to wait for a valid response from the API server before retrying a registration attempt, but the idea is that we need to send as many requests as possible to increase our chances of grabbing the domain as it is dropped. It is not uncommon for commercial namedrop services to send as many as 1000 requests per second across a number of servers in order to acquire a domain.
The app will then need to provide some form of visual response to the user, so that he or she knows which domain registrations have been successful, and those that resulted in an error of some kind. The ability to send automatic email notifications on successful registration would be ideal.
The ability to make API calls to more than one registrar is also something that we would like to look into, including the likes of GoDaddy, Dynadot, eNom, Moniker, etc.
