I need detailed engineering drawings and calculations for a load-bearing concrete slab that will support a heavy metal baler. The design must comply with relevant Australian Standards for reinforced concrete and specify mesh/rebar throughout, while maintaining a uniform 30 mm cover around the entire machine base. Key requirements you will address: Machine weighs around 28 tonne in total - but also has a large door around 9 tonne that moves up and down while cycling. (See video) [login to view URL] • Slab must remain perfectly flat and level under load, yet include drainage veins to direct liquid to designated exit point • A 100 mm high × 100 mm wide concrete retaining/bund wall is to be integrated around the perimeter of the base. It has two jobs: restrain any horizontal machine movement and capture liquids until they reach the drain. (approx 30mm clearance around machine base perimeter. • I already have some dimensions for the slab footprint and baler anchoring points but need your help confirming final thickness, reinforcement pattern, and overall layout to suit the imposed loads. I only need design for slab for base of machine, extra smaller slabs will be added with expainsion foam against main base slab to support hydraulic cylinder stands. The set up for the concrete slab should be as simple as possible and include detailed connection drawings/instruction. Customer has lots of SL92 Concrete mesh and 32mm bar in stock if this can be utilised. Your deliverable will include: 1. Fully dimensioned GA and reinforcement plans (PDF + DWG). 2. Reinforcement and concrete schedules referencing Australian Standard grades and bar marks. 3. Drainage detail showing trench drain profile, fall percentages, and discharge point. 4. Brief calculation note verifying load capacity, wall stability, concrete cover, and drainage gradient. Please build in practical construction notes so the drawings can go straight to a local concreter without further clarification.

Hello, I am Muhammad Javed, a structural engineer with more than 10 years of experience in reinforced concrete design, structural calculations, reinforcement detailing, and construction drawings for heavy industrial equipment. I can design the load-bearing slab for your 28-tonne metal baler, including the approximately 9-tonne moving door and its cyclic/dynamic effects. I will review your existing footprint and anchoring points, determine the required slab thickness and reinforcement, and maintain the specified 30 mm concrete cover around the machine base. The design will address slab capacity, machine anchorage and restraint, the 100 × 100 mm integrated retaining/bund wall, drainage falls, trench/drain details, and practical construction connections. I can assess and utilize your available SL92 mesh and 32 mm bar where structurally appropriate, while detailing the isolation arrangement for the smaller hydraulic-cylinder support slabs. You will receive fully dimensioned GA and reinforcement drawings in PDF/DWG, reinforcement and concrete schedules to applicable Australian Standards, drainage details with falls and discharge point, plus concise calculations covering load capacity, dynamic loading, wall stability, reinforcement and cover. A 28-tonne machine with a 9-tonne moving door is not a “typical slab” design—the dynamic loads, anchoring forces, flatness requirements, drainage, and integrated bund all need to work together. That’s exactly where I can add value. I can develop a construction-ready reinforced concrete slab package around your baler footprint and anchoring points, with the design checked against the applicable Australian Standards and practical site construction requirements. My deliverables would include: Fully dimensioned GA + reinforcement drawings (PDF/DWG) Slab thickness, reinforcement layout and detailed SL92/32 mm bar utilisation where structurally appropriate 100 × 100 mm integrated retaining/bund wall with approximately 30 mm machine clearance Detailed machine anchoring and slab connection details Drainage veins/trench detail with falls and designated discharge point Reinforcement, concrete and bar schedules with relevant Australian Standard references Engineering calculation note covering static/dynamic loading, slab capacity, wall stability, reinforcement, cover and drainage Clear construction notes so your concreter can build from the drawings without guesswork I’ll also review the existing dimensions and machine loads first, identify any missing information, and design the simplest practical slab arrangement rather than over-engineering it. Hello, The critical issue here is the combination of a 28-tonne static machine load with a 9-tonne moving door and the resulting dynamic effects transferred into the slab and anchorage. The slab cannot be sized from the machine weight alone; load distribution, anchor locations, concrete bearing, reinforcement, bund stability, and drainage all need to be considered together. I’d establish the governing load cases and load path first, then develop the slab thickness, SL92/32 mm reinforcement strategy, 30 mm cover, machine anchors, 100 × 100 mm bund, and drainage details around those verified loads. The drawings and calculation note would be coordinated so the local concreter has clear construction information rather than a generic reinforcement layout. Do you already have the machine base dimensions, anchor bolt layout, and slab subgrade details available?

Hello, I reviewed the project and the main challenge is designing a slab and perimeter bund that safely handles the baler's static and cycling loads while maintaining the required 30 mm cover, drainage falls, anchoring, and a practical construction arrangement. I have experience with structural detailing, reinforced concrete design, load assessment, reinforcement layouts, drainage details, and technical drawings prepared for construction, with careful attention to applicable standards and site conditions. I can assess the machine loads and anchoring requirements, evaluate whether the available SL92 mesh and 32 mm bar are suitable, and coordinate the slab, bund, drainage, and reinforcement details into one clear package.

The biggest risk here is ensuring the slab remains perfectly flat and level under the heavy load of the 28-tonne baler and the 9-tonne door. If the slab isn't designed correctly, you could face costly repairs or even damage to the machine. A miscalculation could lead to uneven wear and tear, affecting both performance and safety. I'd start with confirming the final thickness and reinforcement pattern, ensuring it aligns with the Australian Standards. Given the existing SL92 mesh and 32mm bars, we can optimize the design without overcomplicating it. I’ll also detail the drainage veins to direct liquid effectively to the exit point, crucial for maintaining the slab's integrity. I’ve handled similar projects before, routinely providing detailed connection drawings and practical construction notes to streamline the process for local concreters. What’s the deadline for this project? Are there any specific site conditions I should be aware of?

I can develop the reinforced concrete slab design and engineering documentation for the 28-tonne metal baler, including the additional dynamic effects from the approximately 9-tonne moving door. Engineering Approach I will assess the machine loads, anchoring forces, door cycling effects and load distribution to establish the required slab thickness and reinforcement. The design will be developed in accordance with the applicable Australian Standards for reinforced concrete, with particular attention to practical construction and durability. The design will address: Static and dynamic machine loading Localized bearing and punching/shear effects Slab bending and deflection Machine anchor locations 30 mm concrete cover requirement SL92 mesh and available 32 mm reinforcement where structurally appropriate 100 × 100 mm perimeter retaining/bund wall Horizontal machine restraint Liquid containment and drainage Drain/trench details and required falls Interface with the separate hydraulic-cylinder support slabs Construction joints and expansion/isolating foam Concrete and reinforcement specifications I will aim to keep the reinforcement and construction arrangement as simple as possible while maintaining the required structural capacity.

Hello, I understand you need a reinforced concrete slab design for a 28-tonne metal baler with dynamic loading from a 9-tonne moving door, complying with Australian Standards while utilizing existing SL92 mesh and 32mm rebar. Two key questions to refine the design: 1. Should the drainage veins align with the baler's liquid discharge points, or do you have a preferred layout? 2. Are there specific anchoring details (e.g., bolt types, embedment depths) you'd like integrated, or should we propose a standard solution? Here is some recent work relevant to structural detailing: [Insert relevant portfolio link if applicable, though your request is highly technical, not visual]. Ready to draft the GA plans and calculations once you confirm those points. Let me know your preference so we can proceed.
