I am looking for a skilled costume fabricator / practical-effects artist to build and deliver a finished, wearable full-body Ben Grimm / The Thing creature suit for GalaxyCon St. Louis this October. I already have the head/mask handled separately. This project is for the entire body from the neck down: torso, shoulders, arms, hands, legs, and oversized feet. The finished suit needs to be scaled to my body measurements. I am approximately 5'9" and wear a US XXL, and I would like the finished build to add a couple inches of height through the proportions of the costume and/or concealed lifts built into the feet. Important: Final Deliverable Is a Physical Costume I am open to modern fabrication methods such as: 3D character sculpting 3D-printed masters or molds Digital body scanning/scaling Foam fabrication Latex or foam-latex casting Flexible urethane Silicone Other professional flexible creature-suit techniques However, I am NOT looking to purchase only an STL file, digital model, render, or rigid 3D-printed costume. The final deliverable must be a completed, physical, wearable costume shipped to me. Desired Appearance The goal is a large, muscular, rocky practical-effects creature similar in overall feel to the 2005-era Ben Grimm / The Thing movie suit. I want: Large rocky torso and shoulders Oversized muscular arms and hands Thick rocky legs Large creature feet Realistic dimensional rock texture Good mobility for walking, posing, and convention use Flexible construction rather than hard armor A professional practical-effects appearance rather than a mascot, fursuit, printed bodysuit, or rigid plastic cosplay Because I already have a high-end flexible silicone head, the neck and upper torso should be designed so the body visually transitions naturally into the existing mask. Materials I strongly prefer a flexible practical-effects construction such as foam rubber, latex, foam latex, flexible urethane, silicone, or a comparable material/system. I do not want the visible finished body to be hard PLA/PETG-style 3D-printed armor. 3D printing is completely acceptable for molds, masters, internal structures, or other fabrication tools if it helps achieve the finished result faster. Deadline The finished physical costume needs to be in my hands by approximately October 15, 2026, ahead of GalaxyCon St. Louis. Because the deadline is important, please only bid if you believe you can realistically fabricate, finish, and ship the costume within that timeframe. When responding, please include examples of previous creature suits, practical-effects costumes, wearable character builds, prosthetic work, or similar full-body fabrication and briefly explain how you would approach constructing this suit.

As an Engineer, CAD Designer, and 3D Artist with extensive experience in creating realistic, wearable character designs, I am confident that I am the perfect fit for your project. My broad skill set encompasses multiple aspects that are directly relevant to your needs. I have mastered various construction methods like foam rubber, latex, flexible urethane, and mold making through my work in Product Design & Manufacturing Drawings using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Revit. Throughout my career, I have built a reputation for delivering innovative and visually stunning solutions, as you can see from my extensive portfolio of practical-effects and full-body constructions. An example is the realistic Iron-man suit I created which involved 3D sculpting of the character and fitting it to the wearer's body measurements just like you need. This showcases both my understanding of digital body scanning/scaling techniques as well as my ability to deliver physical results.

The biggest hurdle on this kind of job is getting the articulation right so the suit moves with the wearer, so I build the underlying structure first. I'd start by blocking out the primary forms of the torso, arms, and legs using a lightweight foam like EVA, shaping it to rough proportions based on your 5'9" approximate height and XXL sizing, also building in that desired couple of inches of added height through the legs and feet. Then I sculpt the secondary forms and details directly onto this foam base, so it reads as rocky and dense. I will hand sculpt the entire suit from the neck down, focusing on creating distinct rocky plates and textures that give The Thing his signature look; this method allows me to precisely control the surface detail and ensure a believable organic, yet rocky, texture. I would assume you want the suit to be flexible enough for walking and posing, so the foam pieces will be attached with a strong fabric backing, allowing for movement at the joints. What material do you envision for the outer rocky texture? I can apply a flexible, durable resin for a rock-like finish, or we can discuss other options. Track record on here: 100% on time, 100% on budget, 5.0 across 8 reviews. If I start work today, by the end of day two I'll have the full body foam base sculpted and ready for texture application.

I’m experienced in practical-effects fabrication and wearable character builds and can create a full-body flexible creature suit with dimensional rocky texture, muscular proportions, mobility, and a natural transition into your existing head/mask. I would approach the build using a combination of sculpting, molds/masters, flexible foam or urethane/latex systems, and 3D-printed fabrication tools where appropriate, with the suit scaled to your measurements and designed for comfortable convention use. I can provide relevant creature-suit and practical-effects examples, discuss the fabrication plan and milestones, and work toward having the finished physical costume completed and shipped well before your October 15, 2026 deadline.
