Comprehensive Data Analysis & Visualisation

Overview This assessment requires you to analyse one of the three databases below. You will utilise various data analytics techniques and visualisation tools to derive insights from the data. The final submission should be a comprehensive report of approximately 3000 words, +/-10% showcasing your ability to apply statistical analysis, create informative visualisations, and tell a compelling story with the data. Assessment Objectives Data Choice: Choose one dataset from the following list that are available on Moodle under the section Handbook, Assessment brief and Rubric: 1) FTSE 100 Historical Data, 2) HRDataset_v14_ver3, and 3) Smartwatches and Wearable Technology – UK – 2025. Choose one that is suitable to your programme subject area or personal interest. Statistical Analysis: Perform basic statistical analyses, including measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode) and dispersion (range, variance, standard deviation). Identify any patterns with regard to the variables in the data, e.g., over time, or across demographic variables. Data Visualisation: Create various charts to represent your findings, including: Line charts for trends over time. Bar charts for comparisons between different time periods or indices. Ensure that visualisations are clear, well-labelled, and effectively communicate the data insights. Storytelling: Develop a narrative that links your statistical findings and visualisations. Highlight key patterns, insights, and implications of your analysis. Discuss the significance of your findings in the context of the broader economic, business, or organisational environment. Structure of the Report Introduction (300 words): Introduce the dataset and briefly describe what information it is collecting, including its relevance to broader economic, business or organisational environment. State the objectives and outline the structure of the report. Data Collection and Preparation (500 words): Describe how the data would have been collected and why such data might be important to analyse. Statistical Analysis (700 words): Present the results of your statistical analyses. Include relevant calculations and interpretations. Data Visualisation (600 words): Include your visualisations with clear explanations. Discuss the insights gained from each visualisation. Storytelling and Insights (600 words): Create a narrative around your analysis, presenting the key insights. Discuss potential implications for readers and stakeholders. Conclusion (300 words): Summarise the key findings and their significance. Suggest areas for further research or analysis. Submission Requirements Format: The report should be well-organized, with clear headings and subheadings. Referencing: Use Harvard referencing style for citations and references. Visuals: Ensure all charts and visualisations are properly integrated into the report. Deadline: Monday 23rd March 2026 by 5pm Marking Criteria Analytical Depth: Quality of the statistical analysis and insights derived. Visualisation: Clarity, relevance, and effectiveness of the visualizations. Narrative Quality: Ability to tell a compelling story with the data. Communication: Report is written in coherent Standard English, is well structured and well presented in an appropriate academic style. Referencing: Quality of your citations and references format in accordance with the Harvard referencing style I can also make it fully paragraph-style so it reads more like a formal brief.
