There is a construct problem in the brief worth naming first, because a reviewer will raise it first too. A student completed survey measures perceived understanding and confidence. It does not measure whether they understand the material. The two correlate weakly, and the gap runs the wrong way.. students furthest behind often rate themselves highest. So either we link responses to attainment data, even aggregated, and the claim becomes defensible, or we report perceived understanding honestly and build the recommendations on that. Still useful for curriculum design, and it survives peer review. How I would run it: Likert items treated as ordinal. Distributions shown, not just means. Non parametric tests where the assumptions fail, and Cronbach alpha before any group of items is treated as one scale. Effect sizes reported beside p values, per APA 7. With a single cohort the honest framing is a pilot, carrying a power calculation for what the follow up study needs. Scripts in R or Python, commented so your faculty can rerun them.
