I have already extracted all modal-verb tokens from two learner corpora—one tagged “Intermediate,” the other “Advanced”—and calculated their normalized frequencies (per 10,000 words). What I still need is a statistically sound comparison of those frequencies. Please run log-likelihood (LL) tests in SPSS to determine whether the differences between the two proficiency levels are significant. If the LL results indicate that additional inferential statistics would clarify the picture—say, a follow-up effect-size measure or confidence interval—you may include them, but keep the focus on the LL output itself. Deliverables • SPSS syntax file and/or detailed steps so I can replicate the procedure • The SPSS output tables and a brief interpretation in plain English (no jargon—just what is significant and why) • A short note on any extra tests you considered necessary and the rationale behind them Everything else—the raw counts, corpus sizes, and my existing frequency tables—will be shared as soon as the contract starts, so you can plug them straight into SPSS and get to work quickly.

Hi, I can perform a statistically rigorous comparison of your Intermediate and Advanced learner corpora by calculating and interpreting statistics, with the primary focus on determining whether the normalized modal-verb frequency differences are statistically significant. I'll provide a transparent, reproducible workflow in SPSS, ensuring every step can be replicated for your research or thesis. You'll receive the complete SPSS syntax (or a detailed step-by-step procedure if preferred), the resulting output tables, and a concise, plain-English interpretation explaining which differences are significant and what they mean. If appropriate, I'll also recommend and report complementary statistics, such as effect size or confidence intervals, to strengthen the interpretation, along with a brief justification for including them without shifting focus away from the LL analysis. Regards, Arwa...

Hello, I’d be delighted to assist with the statistical comparison of your two learner corpora. Using the raw token counts and corpus sizes you provide, I will perform the appropriate log-likelihood (LL) analysis to determine whether the observed differences in modal-verb frequencies between the Intermediate and Advanced corpora are statistically significant. I will ensure the analysis is transparent, reproducible, and appropriate for corpus-linguistic frequency data, while presenting the findings in a clear and academically rigorous format. The deliverables will include a fully documented SPSS syntax file (or step-by-step instructions if preferred), the complete SPSS output, and a concise interpretation explaining which differences are statistically significant and what they indicate in plain English. Where appropriate, I will also comment on complementary measures—such as effect size or confidence intervals—if they add meaningful context to the LL results, together with a brief explanation of why they were considered. My experience in statistical analysis, SPSS, quantitative research, corpus-based studies, and academic reporting enables me to provide results that are both methodologically sound and easy to replicate for your dissertation or publication. Kind regards.

Hello, I’m interested in assisting with your corpus linguistics analysis. Since you have already extracted the modal-verb frequencies and normalized the data, I can focus on conducting a rigorous statistical comparison between the Intermediate and Advanced learner corpora. My work will include: * Running **log-likelihood (LL) tests** using your raw frequency counts and corpus sizes. * Preparing **SPSS syntax** (or detailed step-by-step instructions) so you can reproduce the analysis independently. * Providing the complete SPSS output with a clear, plain-English interpretation of which differences are statistically significant and what the results mean. * Assessing whether additional statistics, such as effect size or confidence intervals, would strengthen the interpretation, and explaining why they are or are not necessary. * Ensuring all calculations and reporting follow accepted corpus linguistics and statistical research practices. I have experience with SPSS, quantitative data analysis, and academic research, and I pay close attention to accuracy, transparency, and reproducibility. Once you share the raw counts and corpus sizes, I can begin the analysis immediately and deliver well-organized results that are ready to incorporate into your research. I look forward to working with you. Best regards.

Hello, I got that you are looking for a statistically sound comparison of modal-verb frequencies between your Intermediate and Advanced learner corpora using log-likelihood tests in SPSS, along with clear interpretation and a reproducible workflow. This is what I can help you with, let's chat. My approach is to analyze your corpus data in SPSS by performing log-likelihood calculations using the raw counts and corpus sizes, then validate the results with appropriate follow-up measures where they add meaningful insight. The most important part is ensuring the statistical conclusions are accurate and reproducible, so I will provide SPSS syntax, document every step, and explain the findings in plain English, highlighting which differences are statistically significant and what they mean for your research. Any additional analyses will only be included if they strengthen the interpretation. As final deliverables you will receive the SPSS syntax and step-by-step procedure, complete output tables, a concise interpretation of the log-likelihood results, and a short note explaining any additional statistical tests and why they were used. One thing I'd like to confirm before we start: will you provide the raw modal-verb counts for each corpus in addition to the normalized frequencies? Let's discuss your dataset and get started. Best Regards, Imran

Hi there, I understand that your data preparation is already complete, and what you need now is a rigorous statistical comparison of modal-verb frequencies between the Intermediate and Advanced learner corpora. The focus will be on performing accurate log-likelihood (LL) analysis in SPSS, validating the significance of the observed differences, and presenting the findings in a clear, publication-ready format that is easy to interpret. My approach is to produce a fully reproducible workflow with well-documented SPSS syntax, verify the LL calculations using your raw counts and corpus sizes, and provide concise interpretations of each result. Where appropriate, I'll include complementary statistics such as effect size or confidence intervals to strengthen the analysis, but only when they add meaningful context to the primary LL findings. You'll receive the SPSS syntax, output tables, plain-English explanations of the results, and a brief methodological note describing any additional analyses performed and why they were included. I'm ready to begin as soon as you share the corpus counts and frequency tables, ensuring a fast turnaround and transparent, reproducible analysis. Regards, Ahmad

Hello, this is a strong match for my statistics, research-writing, and SPSS work. I can use your raw modal-verb counts and corpus sizes to run the Intermediate-versus-Advanced log-likelihood comparisons, document the procedure in reproducible SPSS syntax, and return clean output tables with a concise interpretation for each modal. I will clearly distinguish statistical significance from practical importance and, where useful, add an appropriate effect-size measure while keeping the report centered on the LL results. Before analysis I will verify that normalized frequencies are not being treated as raw counts, since the LL calculation must use the observed frequencies and corpus totals. You will receive the syntax or exact replication steps, SPSS output, and a plain-English summary ready to incorporate into your study. I can complete this within 2 days after receiving the counts and corpus sizes. Do you want results reported at p < .05 only, or should I also flag the stricter p < .01 and p < .001 thresholds?

Hi, I'm a PhD data scientist (Computer Science, Georgia State) doing postdoctoral research at Columbia, with 25+ peer-reviewed papers. Frequency comparison and significance testing is routine work for me, and this one is well specified. One important note up front: the corpus log-likelihood (Dunning's G2) has to be computed from raw counts and total corpus sizes, not from the per-10,000 normalised figures. Normalised rates alone throw away the sample size that the test depends on. So please have the raw modal-verb counts and the two corpus word totals ready - you mentioned you have them, which is all I need. What I'll deliver: - SPSS syntax that builds the 2x2 observed/expected table per modal verb and returns the likelihood-ratio statistic (CROSSTABS with weighted cases), fully commented so you can rerun it yourself. - Output tables per modal, with LL value, p, and direction of overuse. - Effect size alongside each LL, because with large corpora almost everything reaches significance. I'd add Log Ratio and %DIFF, and a Bonferroni or BH correction across the set of modals since you are running many tests. - A plain-English interpretation: which modals genuinely differ between Intermediate and Advanced, and by how much in practical terms. How many distinct modal verbs are in the comparison? Best, Sarwan

Considering my extensive experience in data analysis, statistics, and my familiarity with SPSS, I am your ideal candidate for this Log-Likelihood Analysis project. Not only am I a native English speaker but I possess a strong command of complex data analysis, filtering through jargon to present meaningful findings in plain English. I understand how crucial it is for academic study to have statistically sound comparisons, so my approach is thorough and meticulous. Drawing on my technical abilities and attention to detail, I will deliver not just the SPSS syntax file, an interpretation of the output tables in plain English sans the jargon but also detailed steps that allow you to replicate the procedure without complexity. Additionally, I'll provide valuable insights by conducting follow-up effect-size measures should it enhance the analysis - widening the scope of my delivery but maintaining focus on log-likelihood test results as per your preference. Most relevantly, I have previously worked with AI and large language models, a skillset that would be highly useful given your use of learners' corpora. My affinity for delivering high-quality work aligns perfectly with your need for an accurate comparison of normalized frequencies. Choosing me means choosing expertise, diligence and a commitment to your project's success. Let's discuss the details and set off on making your data speak loud and clear!
