This sounds a lovely project! I was a teacher for six years and used to make books out of the children's poems, and I write poetry myself. I am used to reading handwriting, and one of my recent Freelancer projects was to type out a 21-page handwritten letter. I also do audio transcribing, so my typing is accurate. Most of the transcription work I did when working for DTI Global was from the UK. Added to that, I am a copy editor, so my grammar and spelling is of a high standard.
