My name is Jackie Dornan from Dornan Manufacturing Ltd. Our website is [url removed, login to view] if you would like to check our company and product. We have developed a calibration and maintenance management package which we supply to the life science industries. Please contact me if you would be interested in discussing this oppertunity further.
Some background on the potential projects at Dornans:
>The situation as it is now:
>Investigations have been made in the past regarding moving the back-end
>of the CompuCal application from a FoxPro database to SQL Server.
Due to time limitation, the decision was made to convert the table (as they were) directly to SQL and to set up Remote Views. In this way, not much change needs to be made to the application (INDEXES,ORDERs, RELATIONs and SEEKS are affected). This however, we know, is not the best way of doing this. Therefore this is only the first step, to get a working application with a SQL Server backup.
>The NEXT steps are the real work. These are projects that I can see are
>necessary for the application:
>1:) Proper design of database -object oriented design.(normalisation and relationships).
There is a lot of redundancy in the tables at the moment and no relationships set up.
>2:) How to connect to a SQL Back-end (best way - SQLPassThrough or OLE). All ways will have to be investigated and it is up to the programmer to make an informed decision how to proceed.
3:) Connection to Oracle - ability to deliver a SQL or Oracle system depending on the client's requirements or budgets.
>4:) Front-End also needs to be updated to bring in line with more
>modern applications. The programmer should be able to research possible
>solutions (VB, .NET, C++, Java, FoxPro!!).
>> > Problems facing the application at the moment is a lack of flexibility when fixing bugs. Even a header change results in a new executable of 10MB. Clients are not willing to accept new exe all the time. Programmer must find the best way to break up the
>application into manageable modules.(delivering dlls rather than
>5:) Redesign of front-end to make more user-friendly.
>6:) Research and develop method of connecting to other devices (e.g.
>PDAs, Calibrator tools). System integration should be seamless to other
>devices and applications (SAP links available from current version).
Please contact me with specific details of previous project experience - specifically oo design and development and an indication of changes. Location for this project is in Cork, Ireland.
