Read text using laser/infra-red lights (no camera)

We want to extract the text from multiple objects using laser / infra-red type of lights.
We can’t use camera to take video or photo to extract the text - but we should use some sort of light to extract the text.
Products size , fonts Will differ and I want a basic POC for 5 object that I share here.
Scope : 5 objects
Task : read the text without a camera
Limitation : no camera can be used
Sample image : attached
Performance : text must be extracted within 500 milli seconds
