I have a device that runs on 12-48v DC, drawing up to 5A at 12v at bootup. This then settles down to 2-3A for normal operation. I need to run this device from my 12v vehicle battery – either via a cigarette lighter plug or direct battery connection. The device runs fine at 12v, but runs better at a higher voltage. The device’s supplied 240v power supply outputs 30v @ 2.0A/60W. The problem is that when the vehicle engine is started, the current drops and the device reboots. I need a circuit and PCB design that will: a) Be robust enough to live in a vehicle b) Switched (off board) – via screw terminals c) Fused (either on PCB or automotive blade fuse connected to PCB via screw terminals) d) Reverse polarity protection e) Reverse connection protection (i.e. power input connected to output) f) Turn a 12–14.4v DC battery input into a stable 30v to 48v output g) Store enough energy to maintain the output power through engine cranking (say 2-3 seconds) h) Protect the vehicle battery from being drained by cutting the load when the input voltage drops to 12v (adjustable to 13v) i) PCB should have screw terminals for power -/+ IN and -/+ OUT j) Status LEDs to show: i. 12v IN Good (GREEN) or Low (RED) ii. Good Voltage OUT (BLUE) Consideration should be given to make sure the LEDs are visible through the enclosure – i.e. they either need to be on break-away PCB if SMD or mounted on the underside of the PCB if TH LEDs are to be used k) 3.5mm mounting holes should be used for PCBs l) The PCB will be mounted in a plastic enclosure (designed to fit the PCB(s) with switch and input\output connectors (and fuse if not on the PCB). Whilst there are no size constraints, the PCB should be as small as practicably possible and the enclosure will be designed on submission of Deliverable 2 to ensure the external components (connectors\switches\fuse\LEDs) will fit\work. The PCB(s) will be produced by JLCPCB and should be test on the JLCPCB site prior to delivery. Deliverables\Milestones: 1) Circuit diagram – 25% 2) Design Files – 50%: a. PCB layout files (KiCad) and Gerbers ready for fabrication b. Bill of Materials using automotive-grade component suggestions – using JLCPCB parts library, using Basic parts before Extended parts 3) Successful upload to JLCPCB and order – 25%
