Sculpture Foundation

I help out with a group known as West Bend Friends of Sculpture (WBFS). We are placing a new sculpture in a few months along the Riverwalk in downtown West Bend, Wisconsin. We are looking for an engineer that is licensed in Wisconsin. The sculpture will be in the floodplain so the City wants us to get an engineer to provide a plan drawing to make sure the sculpture will not become a hazard should we experience a major 100 year flood. We have engineering drawings of the sculpture and the base it sits on (see attached). The location of the bird is at a place on the Riverwalk where a former pedestrian bridge was located. The city did not remove the bridge footings when they upgraded the Riverwalk so they believe there is a substantial enough base below the new sidewalk to secure the piece. We just need an engineer to confirm that and provide recommendations for mounting. Here is what I would suggest as a scope of work:

• Participate in one kickoff/design phase meeting with the WBFS and City to develop layout and foundation design

• Review the location and provide options for mounting the sculpture and provide input on structural considerations for pedestal to limit possibility that the sculpture will be dislodged during a flood event.

• Calculate flood loads on foundation and sculpture, anchorage requirements to concrete.

• Design and detail modifications of existing abutment as needed and prepare construction documents for footing and anchorage.

• Be available to answer City and contractor questions and review submittal documents related to any construction and/or installation if needed.
