An existing detached garage had a foundation extension added to it while other work was performed on the grounds of the house where garage is located with the intension of a future addition. extension 20' wide by 21', was limited to the installation of footings and retaining walls. The ground on which foundation extension was installed consists of a marginal incline since it is in the slope of a hill.
The steel reinforced wall hight is 3'-8" at 8" thickness, retaining 3' of soil behind it. The wall was complemented with a continoues french drainage system.
Partialy installed in bedrock. Bedrock type: Sandstone. The footings: 16" deep by 24" wide were casted in place 16" deep into bedrock. ( 2' of topsoil were excavated and a 16" depth was excavated into the bedrock. )
Steel reinforcement: 4 - #4 continuous rebars. All rebar was inserted 6" into existing footing of garage and bonded with Hilti Epoxy as per local structual guidelines.
A drawing of the foundation extension was made to include all aspects of the construction. Materials used and the design of the footings and walls were constructed according to local building code. At this point a structural engineer is sought to either both inspect the now existing foundation and to compliment the drawing with the approved Seal. This drawing will be used as the foundation drawing to a full set of Garage Extension Construction Drawings.
