Good day,
I need help from experts to build an algorithm in Filemaker to be able to calculate the cutting method to get the least waste material after cutting. It will be 1D and 2D cutting.
I prefer to have it done naturally in Flemaker, but I am open to other ideas too. It might be done as a plug-in or a stand alone software written in any kind of languages or a commercial one, but on the ground that it should be able to Read/Write From/To Filemaker database directly or a Prevasive.SQL.
There are cutting optimizing software which can import/export from/to Excel but I don't want my users to Import export every time they need to calculate the cut.
The sizes of raw inventory materials may vary for both 1D and 2D cutting, therefore, the algorithm should be able to get the order sizes, look for the all the materials in inventory list that can accommodate that specific order sizes and find the best cut out of them. After the cutting calculation is done, the if user approve it, then the used material should be subtracted from the inventory list and the left-over materials should be added as new inventory items to the list.
The find criteria for raw materials would be Length, Wall thickness, Diameter, Material, etc.
I hope above is clear enough.
It is far too much work to rebuild the optimization algorithm. I popose a smart interface between FileMaker and existing optimization solutions. Dont try to reinvent the wheel.
Powershell (Win) / Applescript (MacOS) will make this interface reliable.
