I have a handsome, solid-wood dresser from the 1950s that needs a fresh life while still feeling true to its mid-century spirit. The piece must be completely stripped, sanded smooth, then white-washed and lightly distressed so the original grain peeks through. Think soft, sun-bleached tones rather than solid paint—almost a coastal matte white that lets the wood character stay centre stage. Key points for the refinish • Strip and sand every surface, inside and out, including drawer fronts and moulding details. • Apply a controlled whitewash stain (not opaque paint), keeping the finish matte to satin at most. • Introduce only light distressing on natural wear points—drawer edges, corners, and hardware surrounds—so it looks authentically aged, not over-worked. • Seal with a clear, non-yellowing topcoat that protects without adding shine. I can deliver or have the dresser collected within the city. Please tell me how you plan to achieve an even whitewash (brushed, ragged, or spray), what grit sequence you like for sanding old varnish, and your typical turnaround time. Before final hand-off, I’ll need a few high-resolution photos in natural light to confirm colour depth and distressing level. If you love coaxing vintage wood back to life without erasing its story, this project should be a perfect fit. I will want the mirror removed but think it would be a cool stand alone piece as a vertical mirror. Attaching some current images of the piece

Hi! I’d be glad to help develop your project into a professional design package that is both visually compelling and practical to execute. With 8+ years of architectural experience, I work across concept design, floor planning, interior architecture, detailed drawings, and 3D visualization. I use AutoCAD, 3ds Max, V-Ray, Revit, and SketchUp according to the needs of each project. I also understand the importance of clear communication and efficient revisions, so the design process stays organized from the beginning rather than becoming complicated later. What information do you currently have available — drawings, dimensions, photos, or just the initial idea?

Hello. My name is Mary, and I am a professional furniture refinisher with strong experience specializing in mid-century pieces and whitewash techniques that preserve natural wood character. I have successfully completed similar projects, including a 1950s walnut dresser with a soft coastal whitewash and light distressing, and a full restoration of a vintage dining set with a matte white finish. I understand you want a solid-wood 1950s dresser completely stripped, sanded smooth, whitewashed with a matte finish, lightly distressed, and sealed with a non-yellowing topcoat, while also considering the mirror as a stand-alone piece. My approach will start by carefully disassembling the dresser and removing the mirror, then I will strip and sand all surfaces using a progressive grit sequence starting at 80 to remove old varnish, moving to 120, and finishing with 220 for a smooth base. I will apply the whitewash stain using a controlled ragging technique to achieve an even, soft matte finish that lets the grain peek through, and I will introduce light distressing on natural wear points such as drawer edges and corners. I will seal with a clear, non-yellowing satin topcoat to protect without shine. I can complete this within 7 to 10 business days and will provide high-resolution photos in natural light before final hand-off. I am ready to start immediately. I look forward to collaborating. Best Regards. Mary.

Hello, I’d love to restore your 1950s solid-wood dresser while keeping its original character and grain visible. I have strong experience in vintage furniture refinishing, wood preparation, whitewashing, subtle distressing, and protective finishing. I’ll completely strip and sand the piece, apply a controlled matte whitewash that enhances the natural grain rather than hiding it, lightly distress only authentic wear points, and finish with a non-yellowing protective coat. I can also carefully remove the mirror and prepare it as a standalone vertical piece. I’m ready to deliver a clean, natural, professionally restored finish. Best regards
