All must be able to speak and understand English
Participants will be required to prepare 100 sentences in their native language on a Word document split into 2 sections: -
50 conversational language sentences: Generally an informal chat to a friend, these sentences can be made up or taken from a conversation had on social media (all hashtags and @ references should be removed) - these sentences MUST sound like a normal conversation talking about personal things/ experiences and no sales or promotions in any capacity. Examples may include 'Solo mission to Sri Lanka. Not sure when i'll be back' -
50 formal language sentences: These sentences must be more formal with very few/ no abbreviations e.g. text from a formal email, from a newspaper or from scratch. Examples may include 'Apologies for the late reply, I am travelling to Japan so only have irregular access to the internet' ***Please note all participants will be required to submit a small batch of these sentences prior to the testing date (20 sentences each) to ensure accuracy by email Test days:
The testing will be over 3 consecutive days (9am-5pm) in June, during which all participants will be expected to manually type out the 100 sentences they've prepared 3 times into 3 separate smartphone keyboards: -
Manual input 1 (per smartphone keyboard): This will test the 'Keypress saving' - Participants will be expected to count the the numbers of key presses required to complete each sentence. When a word is correctly predicted or completed in the smartphone candidate bar the tester is expected to tap the prediction.
Manual input 2 (per smartphone keyboard): This will test the 'Word Prediction Accuracy' - Every time a word is correctly predicted before any letter of a word is typed, the participant must mark that word as correctly predicted.
Manual input (per smartphone keyboard: This will test the 'Autocorrect accuracy' - Prior to the participant inputting the sentences the moderator will have 'corrupted' the sentences (mixed the words/ lettering into an incorrect order) so the participant should press each key slowly and carefully exactly who it appears in the 'corrupted' order. The participant should then look back at the text output from the keyboard and note which corrupted/mix up words were correctly corrected, ignored and incorrectly corrected.
