Hello everyone! I need a Godot 4 developer to build a small technical prototype for an ambient 3D weather environment. Most of the work in focused on currently is coding and project management, if you don't have any experience in this I will likely turn you away. This is NOT a full game. I simply want to test the weather/simulation systems first before spending money on a final 3D environment. Prototype requirements: Godot 4 / GDScript 3D scene using extremely simple placeholder assets Controllable rain intensity Controllable wind intensity and direction Lightning flashes Thunder triggered by lightning with a believable delay based on distance Layered weather/environment audio Basic environmental reactions to wind/rain Simple local control panel to change weather variables in real time Standalone Windows build The code should be structured cleanly so additional weather systems can be added later, such as snow, waves, more environmental reactions, and eventually external controls. Important! Visual quality is NOT the priority for this first prototype. I care more about the underlying systems working well and feeling believable. I need the complete editable Godot project/source files at the end of the milestone, along with any documentation needed to understand the systems. Please show me examples of: Godot 4 projects 3D work Weather, VFX, particles, shaders, simulations, environmental systems, or similar technical work I am looking for someone I can potentially continue working with on future systems if the prototype goes well. I'm not particularly fond of Ai. I understand some people utilize vibe coding and generated placeholders within their process but for this project and any potential subsequent projects I would like to be on the same wavelength regarding artificial intelligence. Thank you!

Hello, I reviewed your Godot 4 prototype requirements, and the core challenge is building the underlying weather systems cleanly rather than focusing on visual polish, with believable interactions between rain, wind, lightning, thunder timing, audio, and environmental responses. I would structure the GDScript systems modularly so the current controls can drive weather parameters while leaving a solid foundation for future systems such as snow, waves, additional reactions, and external controls. I have worked on technical 3D, simulation, VFX, and interactive environment projects and can share relevant examples once we connect in chat. Also a quick question, should the weather systems be designed around a central simulation controller so future weather types can plug into the same parameter and event framework? Best Regards, Muskan.

Hi, I'm Stefan. This caught my attention mainly because I love working on atmospheric simulations and technical prototypes. I've developed multiple projects in Godot 4, focusing on creating responsive environments and coding cleanly for future scalability. Here's how I'd approach it: ▸ Start by setting up the basic weather systems to ensure they function seamlessly together. ▸ Implement controllable rain and wind variables with realistic audio effects to enhance immersion. ▸ Focus on structuring the code for easy integration of future weather types, ensuring flexibility for expansion. I genuinely enjoy immersing myself in client projects, treating each outcome as something I'd want to stand behind. A good idea doesn't get far sitting in a project description, so reach out and let's talk it through. Regards, Stefan.

The believable feel should come from one shared weather state rather than separate visual effects. I’ll build a modular WeatherController where rain, wind direction, particles, environment response and layered audio react to the same parameters; lightning distance will determine thunder delay using the speed of sound. The prototype will include a real-time control panel, placeholder 3D scene, clean GDScript structure, Windows build and source documentation. For the initial environmental reactions, would foliage sway, rain splashes and basic surface wetness be sufficient?

Hi, I’m Dev Singh, a Principal game Engineer with 20+ years in AI, simulation and software development. I have gone through your specific requirement for a Godot weather prototype. I would keep the weather logic in separate GDScript components rather than one large scene script, so snow and waves can be added without rewriting the core. Confirm how you want wind and rain to affect the placeholder environment, at least that is where I would start. Build the Godot 4 3D scene with adjustable rain, wind direction and intensity, lightning, distance-based thunder delay and layered audio. Add a local control panel, package a standalone Windows build, then provide the editable project and setup notes. I can send relevant project details and technical examples privately. My hourly rate is 25$/hr and can discuss about timeline after discussion. Do you have a preferred Godot 4 minor version or an existing project to extend? Should thunder distance be measured from a fixed listener position or a movable camera? Which environmental reactions matter most for this prototype? Free for a quick call? Or answer here and I’ll map out the first version. Dev Singh

You’re seeking a solid, extensible weather prototype in Godot 4, not a full game yet. I can deliver a clean, modular weather system with a usable in-scene control panel and a standalone Windows build, prioritizing robust systems over visuals. What I’ll deliver - Weather core: rain intensity, wind intensity/direction, and lightning with a believable, distance-based thunder delay. The code is modular via signals and scripts to allow easy addition of snow, waves, or new environmental effects later. Animation and 3D Animation concepts inform timing and responsiveness for a believable atmosphere. - Audio layering: layered ambient rain, wind, and thunder that reacts to weather state to create immersion without overdraw. - Visual placeholders: simple 3D assets focused on accurate timing and physics rather than final visuals. - Local control panel: real-time weather tweaking (rain, wind, and lightning) via an in-scene UI for rapid iteration. - Architecture: clean, extensible GDScript structure ready for future systems and external controls. Deliverables - Complete editable Godot 4 project with scenes, scripts, assets (placeholders), and documentation. - Standalone Windows build. - README with extension steps (snow, waves, more environmental reactions). - Example parameter configurations and usage notes. Budget + timeline - Budget: 0 USD (per manual override). - Timeline: 5-7 days for core prototype and documentation. Portfolio reference - Portfolio: https://www.freelancer.com/u/z

I focus on delivering results that matter. Creating a weather prototype can be tricky, especially when you need it to feel real and responsive. If the coding and project management aren't spot on, the whole experience could fall flat, making it hard to test your ideas effectively. I can develop a solid foundation for your ambient 3D weather environment in Godot 4. I’ll ensure the code is clean and structured, allowing for easy additions like snow or waves later. My approach will prioritize functionality, so you can control rain and wind dynamics, and I’ll implement sound effects that enhance immersion. I’ve tackled similar projects before, ensuring they meet technical specifications while staying adaptable for future needs. You’ll find me to be a transparent freelancer who values responsiveness and delivering exactly what you need. Let's make this prototype a success together.

Hi, "Believable" isn't the same as accurate. Thunder delayed by distance is basic math. What sells weather is that the systems affect each other. So we'd build one weather state resource as the source of truth. Rain, wind, lightning and audio read from it instead of running independently, which is what lets snow and waves drop in later without a rebuild. Lightning and thunder get built as one event, so distance, delay and direction stay consistent as the storm moves. The panel writes to one place, and the standalone Windows build comes with the full project files and documentation. Is the camera first-person inside the scene, or free? That changes how the storm audio positions, and I'd rather build it once.

This prototype should prove the weather systems first — believable rain, wind, lightning, thunder and environmental reactions — without wasting the budget on final 3D art. I’d keep the implementation modular so those systems can grow into the full environment later. I’d build the Godot 4 prototype around independent, extensible weather systems: Rain: adjustable intensity with particle-based precipitation Wind: strength + direction controls with environmental response Lightning: randomized flashes with configurable timing/intensity Thunder: triggered from lightning with a distance-based delay Audio: layered rain, wind, thunder and environmental ambience Environment reactions: simple objects/foliage/materials responding to weather Control panel: real-time controls for all key weather parameters Architecture: separate systems/components so snow, waves, additional reactions and external controls can be added later Build: standalone Windows executable plus complete editable Godot project/source I’d also include clear comments/documentation around the weather controller, parameters and system interactions so another developer can extend it without reverse-engineering the prototype. I’d keep visuals intentionally simple and spend the effort on simulation behavior, timing, audio layering and clean architecture.

Consider this ✍️I understand the importance of creating a believable weather simulation environment with Godot 4, complex systems like controllable rain and wind intensity. You mentioned testing the weather/simulation systems first before committing to a full 3D environment. What usually matters most here is ensuring that the code structure allows for easy additions of new weather systems later. I have worked on similar prototypes where clean code organization was crucial. So I know the pain point of needing a flexible foundation for future enhancements. My approach would involve: • Developing a 3D scene using placeholder assets. • Implementing controllable rain and wind systems with parameters. • Creating lightning and thunder effects with realistic delays. • Layering environmental audio to enhance immersion. • Structuring the project for easy integration of future weather features. How soon do you want to see the initial prototype working? Best, Kurt.
