Create a Chrome Extension that allows the user to record a video of what is displayed on the screen and what is heard by the user's microphone. When the extension is first opened it should help the user to enable necessary permissions if they are not initially enabled. Then it should show an audio meter that indicates the volume of what the microphone is picking up. If audio is detected it should allow the user to initiate the recording. User should be able to select to record the whole screen, a specific window, or a specific browser tab. While recording is in progress the extension should not have any visible UI except for the extension's icon which the browser displays. While recording is in progress the icon should be a red circle, otherwise the icon should be a green circle. When the user taps the icon while recording, they should be given options to pause or end their recording. If the user taps the icon while paused, they should be given the option to resume or end their recording. Once they end the recording, they should be prompted where to save the recording. Recording should be saved as a .webm file. When playing back the video within chrome you must be able to seek to any time in the video. The overall goal is to have a super simple UI that does not allow you to mistakenly record your screen without recording your audio. Extension must be compatible with Google's Chrome Extension Manifest V3. Once completed the source code will be made available as a public github repository. An older chrome extension that had the desired UI was available at: [login to view URL] This used the V2 manifest version. Its source code is available at: [login to view URL] This project might be helpful to understand the technical details of writing a chrome screen recorder extension. However, the goal for this project is to have a much simpler user interface that records the user's entire screen, window, or browser tab and always records the microphone audio.
