Every cell where the passes disagree gets pulled up and re-read against the paper. It costs a bit more time and it catches almost everything a single pass misses. Handwritten digits carry their own traps, 1 against 7, 4 against 9, and a 0 written over a correction. Where a digit is genuinely ambiguous I don't quietly pick the likelier one. It goes on a flagged list with the form number and you decide. Each survey record sits on its own row with a form ID, so your random sample check goes straight back to the right paper original. You get the .xlsx and a CSV export. I work evenings on a fixed schedule and take these in batches of about a hundred, so you get files to check as we go rather than everything landing at the end.
