I am developing a website called ScrapReport.com.
This site will be devoted to the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), hence the term "scrap" which is a term commonly used by fight fans to describe a fight between two people.
Ultimate Purpose: This site will gather MMA news & entertainment from a multitude of sources across the net and the most interesting will be put on display for viewer consumption. This site will include no original content by the creators and staff so all links to articles and videos will be derived from other sources with new content postings every 15-20 minutes. This site will be a direct replica of the business model and concept that [url removed, login to view] has perfected. This site will be the [url removed, login to view] of MMA.
The Look of the Site: I am seeking to model the look of [url removed, login to view] but BETTER.
Things that I like about [url removed, login to view]'s look/what I will need:
--I like that Drudge is essentially a ONE page website in which every link leads the visitor to somewhere else. This means less data used, less requirements for memory storage, and less pages to build out
--I like the all-white background. It makes the black letters and font of the links pop off the screen and keeps viewer's attention
--I like that it is easy to navigate without too many bells and whistles, it is strictly entertaining news and stands on that platform
--I like that the site is divided into 3 columns separated by long borders, its easy to navigate and find what interests you
--I like that the site is not grouped into different sections depending on the type of news it is. By having news of all topics placed randomly in no specific order throughout the site, it requires the visitor to stay on your site longer as they have sift through each link to find what grabs their eye.
--I like that there are pictures in each section that serve as a description for the top story of that particular section
--I like that they put one huge picture at the top of the page for the 'top story of the day'
--This site will only be updated by me initially so I need it to be EASY to update the content on an ongoing basis since i don't have any significant design or website building skills.
--I like the search option provided by the site to search for past postings & articles (I don't know what capability will be needed to store old postings to make it searchable so maybe you could shed light on that as well)
Things I don't like about [url removed, login to view]'s look:
--I don't like how every single news link is underlined and then followed by a line separator; it makes the links look sloppy and convoluted. I would have the news links in bold face and a font that pops and have a horizontal line separators after a chunk of 5-6 news links
--The site is simple which is good but it is a little TOO simple. This is where the designer comes in. I need someone that has the creativity to give me the simplicity of [url removed, login to view] but also add in their design skills, creative expertise, and personal touch to tastefully provide some flash and bells & whistles that only a person who is good at what they do would have an eye for. But not so much that it would require me to actually know how to perform those same feats to change pictures and news content on an ongoing basis. I need a superb EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL template in which the content and pics can be easily changed by me on a daily basis simply. For example, if you include a big slide show at the top of the screen showing pics of the top news of the day, I want to be able to easily change the pics within that slide show without any serious effort on my part. After the site grows, I will hire a web manager to manage the entire site going forward.
That pretty much sums it up.
