Job Description:
A graphic designer is needed to work on pulling together illustrated short stories for early English literacy books for the African market. The books are aimed at primary aged children. You will be working on a social impact project with talented Nigerian illustrators to produce a series of 16 books for under-resourced communities. Graphic design and page layouts are needed for around 20+ pages plus front and back covers per book. The ideal candidate would have experience working with children's books or bright, fun, imaginative cartoons/caricatures and plus have a keen interest in supporting the potential of children in West Africa to develop skills to become leaders of tomorrow. Having an understanding of Nigerian and/or West African culture would be an asset as these books have representation of African youth at their core.
I already have 2 illustrators on the project so I am looking more for a candidate strong in graphic design and layout design.
The first 5 books have a deadline of end February 2023. The second set of 6 books is deadline to be confirmed but it is around July 2023. the final 5 books is also deadline to be confirmed but approximately December 2023. The budget is between £2000-3000 for all 16 books. This will be approximately 370 pages needing graphic design and 1,056 pages needing layouts. The books are a series, so there is repetition in design and layouts.
