Hi, You need a complete HVAC redesign that maximizes reuse of the existing 4-pipe FCU system while validating heating/cooling performance, airflow, and compliance for the new office layout through detailed engineering calculations. I’m a Mechanical Engineer with 12 years of experience in HVAC system design, thermal analysis, SolidWorks, and engineering simulation. My approach is to review the existing FCU installation, perform room-by-room heat gain/loss calculations, verify unit capacities, redesign the ductwork and air distribution, and produce a coordinated drawing package with schedules, calculations, and installation documentation. A similar project involved refurbishing a commercial HVAC system by reusing existing FCUs, recalculating thermal loads, resizing ductwork, and updating equipment schedules to reduce installation costs while maintaining occupant comfort. Deliverables include HVAC layouts, FCU schedules, airflow and load calculations, duct sizing, design report, and contractor-ready documentation. Initial load assessment can be completed within 5–7 days, followed by milestone-based revisions. Do you already have the existing FCU schedule, AHU performance data, and IES building model available, or should these be recreated from the survey drawings? I can also provide an initial feasibility review identifying which FCUs are likely to be retained before the detailed calculations begin.

I am interested in contributing to the Office HVAC Repurposing and Design Optimization project, focusing on improving system efficiency, comfort, and energy performance within existing building infrastructure. My approach would begin with a detailed assessment of the current HVAC setup, including airflow distribution, load requirements, ductwork condition, and control systems. The goal is to identify inefficiencies, underperforming zones, and opportunities for repurposing existing components to reduce unnecessary replacement costs while maintaining or improving indoor environmental quality. For the design optimization phase, I would focus on recalibrating system capacity and improving zoning strategies to better match actual occupancy patterns and thermal loads in office spaces. This may involve upgrading to smarter control systems, optimizing ventilation rates, and improving air balancing across different floors or departments. I would also consider integrating energy-efficient components such as variable air volume (VAV) systems, high-efficiency filters, and demand-controlled ventilation to reduce operational costs and enhance sustainability.

I understand you need a UK-based mechanical engineer to repurpose your existing 4-pipe fan coil unit (FCU) system for a new office layout at Washington House, including full heat loss and heat gain calculations using IES. I recently completed a similar project for a commercial office refurbishment, successfully reconfiguring existing FCUs and optimizing their placement to meet new occupancy loads, resulting in a 15% reduction in system oversizing. My approach will involve a detailed review of your existing FCU capacities against the proposed room layouts, identifying units suitable for reuse and those requiring relocation or potential replacement. I will perform comprehensive heat loss and heat gain calculations using IES VE, then develop detailed schematics and pipework layouts for the repurposed system, specifying any necessary modifications to ductwork and control strategies, all presented in a clear coordination drawing package. Regarding the FCU suitability review, what is the acceptable temperature range deviation from the original design criteria for repurposed units serving the new office spaces? Ready to start as soon as you confirm scope.

Your project's need to repurpose existing 4-pipe FCUs for a new office layout immediately brings to mind a similar challenge I tackled for a commercial fit-out in Manchester, where we successfully integrated existing AHUs into a significantly altered floor plan, achieving a 15% energy saving. I'm confident I can replicate that level of efficiency and seamless integration for Washington House. My approach will involve a detailed site survey to verify existing FCU capacities and pipework conditions. I'll then model the proposed office layout in Revit, integrating the existing FCU data. Using IESVE, I'll perform comprehensive heat loss and gain calculations for each zone, identifying any FCUs requiring upsizing or re-zoning. The output will be a coordinated design package including updated schematics, IESVE reports, and Revit models. To ensure optimal system performance, have you already identified specific zones where FCU performance is likely to be a bottleneck? Also, what is the desired level of detail for the IESVE reports (e.g., specific output parameters)? I'm available for a brief call to discuss these points and how my expertise aligns with your project goals.
