A manual is read by someone who has both hands on the product and is slightly annoyed, which is a very different design problem from a brochure. That is the lens my designer would work through for TRONE. Practically it means the assembly sequence has to be followable at a glance from a bench: one step per visual unit, the technical drawings placed where the step refers to them rather than collected at the back, torque values and part counts where the eye already is, and type large enough to read at arm's length under bad light. Since you already have the content, drawings and images, and you want layout rather than rewriting, the main decision is how it gets built. I would set it up on proper master pages and paragraph styles rather than laying out pages individually. That is invisible in version one and it is what makes version two cheap, so when you add a product variant or take it into another language, the layout reflows instead of being rebuilt at full price. Sim gaming hardware usually does end up in more than one language. Three things: roughly how many pages, is this for print as well as PDF, and do you have a brand typeface and palette already fixed?
