The thesis deals with the work of Sergei Parajanov in relation to his homosexuality. I claim to apply queer theory and a phenomenological approach though my thesis.
The present thesis aims at investigating the influence of state propaganda and persecution as well social pressure on manifestation of bisexuality in art. This research shall take Sergey Parajanov-a Soviet Armenian film director and artist, persona non grata in Soviet cinema – who was known for his bisexuality as a case study to amply demonstrate the expression of sexuality in art through discrete signs and symbolism. I argue that under conditions of state and social intolerance expression of sexuality in art resumes to hidden and discrete symbolism as opposed
to the cases where the society and state are open and respectful of diversity.
