M&A Lead (Contract / Freelance, 4–6 Months) – Strategic Asset Disposal Project Location: Tokyo, Japan (Hybrid / Partial On-site) Contract Duration: 4 months (extendable to 6 months) About Us We are a strategy and transaction advisory firm focused on capital raising, M&A, and cross-border investments. Our team works closely with corporates and investors to deliver structured, outcome-driven transactions. About the Role We are seeking an experienced M&A Lead to drive a strategic asset disposal mandate for a multinational corporate in Japan. This is a high-impact, execution-focused role, responsible for leading the end-to-end transaction process — from preparation and positioning through to buyer engagement and deal execution. The successful candidate will work closely with senior stakeholders, including management, finance, and procurement teams, and will play a key role in delivering a structured and competitive sale process within a defined timeline. Freelance / independent professionals are welcome to apply. Key Responsibilities: 1. Transaction Leadership Lead the overall asset disposal process from initiation to completion Define and execute transaction strategy, positioning, and timeline Ensure delivery of key milestones within a 4–6 month timeframe 2. Buyer Identification & Engagement Identify and engage targeted strategic and financial buyers (Japan and international) Manage outreach, discussions, and relationship development with potential investors Drive a controlled and competitive bidding process 3. Deal Structuring & Negotiation Advise on transaction structure, valuation considerations, and key terms Support negotiation of commercial terms with buyers Work closely with client stakeholders to align on deal strategy 4. Process & Stakeholder Management Coordinate across internal stakeholders (management, finance, procurement) Work alongside external advisors (legal, tax, valuation, environmental) Oversee data room preparation and due diligence process 5. Execution & Reporting Manage overall transaction workflow and timeline Provide regular updates on buyer engagement and process status Ensure a smooth and efficient transaction process through to closing Requirements A. Experience 8–15+ years of experience in: M&A advisory (investment banking / boutique advisory), OR Corporate M&A / corporate development, OR Private equity / investment roles B. Core Capabilities Proven experience in leading or co-leading M&A transactions Strong understanding of sell-side processes and competitive bidding Experience in deal structuring and negotiation Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and advisors C. Skills Strong commercial judgment and execution capability Excellent communication and presentation skills Ability to operate independently and drive outcomes D. Language Fluent in Japanese and English (required) E. Preferred Experience in real estate, industrial, or asset-based transactions Existing network with corporate buyers, investors, or intermediaries in Japan Working Model Hybrid working arrangement Initial on-site presence required (Tokyo) for onboarding and key meetings Flexibility for remote work with periodic in-person engagement F. Engagement Terms Contract-based role (4 months, extendable to 6 months) Competitive compensation based on experience Open to both full-time contract and freelance engagement structures Opportunity to work on a high-profile, cross-border transaction
