Mobile Streaming Radio Service.
Mobile phone application that users can download to their phone and listen to streaming music. Stations are predefined. Administrator will add and remove stations on an ongoing basis. Application checks and updates its list when launched.
All phones available if possible. Project can be programmed in J2ME (mobile java) to target most phones, or individually for Windows Mobile, Palm, Symbian, others. Programmer will have more information on what is best.
A user signs up for a subscription on our website (either free or paid). With that, they have a username and passwd created. They are directed to point their phone to a wap link so that they can download the application (for free). The user starts the program and enters their username/pwd to log in. The software checks our database for their username/pw and makes sure it is active. Then if ok, the software updates itself with the latest radio station list. The user can then select a station (either by searching or going through categories). They click on a station and it plays in the application. Basic audio experience can be included such as volume, stop and play, etc...
I would like the ability to easily add and remove radio station streams/links on my end so that the mobile software is updated everytime the user launches it.
Issues to overcome:
I want to make sure that I can target as many phones as possible. Obviously we need to be sure that the phone is at least [url removed, login to view] or 3G to be able to properly stream audio. Also, I want to be sure that the application can easily play mp3, windows media, etc... streams since there is a wide variety out there.
There may some additional opportunity to program the website and back end database (as an add-on project).
Similar projects out there:
You can take a look at a similar project called Mundu Radio in India ([url removed, login to view]). They target only Windows Mobile, Symbian and Palm but have an easy application that looks and works well.
