The project is about writing a small java based program that can parse description of the Parking Signs from the given file CSV. The output format should be also in CSV format. Input CSV file: ‘Signs’ file record has the following fields: Borough code (B - Bronx, K – Brooklyn, M – Manhattan, Q – Queens, Staten Island) ‘Status’ - unique identifier of the street section Sign Sequence - sign sequence on the street section Distance from curb line Arrow Points Sign Description (this filed should be parsed) Output CSV file: The file contains information based on the description when the parking is ALLOWED. STATUS - unique identifier of the street section Sign Sequence - sign sequence on the street section DayOfWeek - INTEGER (0-6) OpenTime - TIME CloseTime - TIME Here is the example of some description variations: 1/2 HOUR PARKING W/ SINGLE ARROW (REVISED 8/7/2009) 1/2 HR. METERED PARKING 8AM-6PM MON. THRU SAT 11AM-8PM MON THRU FRI 12 HOUR MUNI-METER PARKING 7AM-7PM EXCEPT SUNDAY 25 CENTS PER 15 MIN 12 HOURS $8.00 NO PARKING 8AM-6PM MON THRU FRI (ARROW) (SUPERSEDED BY R7-45RA) NO PARKING (SANITATION BROOM SYMBOL) 9-9:30AM SAT W/SINGLE ARROW SUPERSEDED BY SP-523CA DATED 4/10/96 NO STANDING EXCEPT FARMERS MARKET VEHICLES 8AM-4PM TUESDAY JUNE-NOV W/ SINGLE ARROW NIGHT REGULATION (MOON & STAR SYMBOLS) NO PARKING (SANITATION BROOM SYMBOL) MIDNIGHT TO-3AM FRI PARKING PERMITTED 7AM-7PM MONDAY ONLY W/SINGLE ARROW The full version of the CSV file is available here (80Mb): [login to view URL] Please PM me if you have any questions,. Hi, it appears that there is not enough data/specs to create fully precise output automatically. If program is for 1-time use, ambiguous/undecidable parking time fields could be marked "???" in resulting CSV, which could be searched/corrected manually. There are > 3900 unique "sign descriptions". Opening times clearly not decidable are e.g.: "X HOUR PARKING <----> XYY-XYY "DAY" THRU "DAY" (BUS STOP SIGN)(HOUR,TIMES & DAYS TO BE DETERMINED)". Descriptions with "superseded" e.g. : ... (SUPERSEDES R7-166RA)(SUPERSEDED BY PS-62CBA) — are these decidable? Is parking allowed when not specified? E.g. section S-229890 has 9 sign sequences with 0 distance from the curb, no parking info. Would parking be allowed 24h or not at all? Some street sections, e.g: B,P-089988,3,0007 , ,NO PARKING (SANITATION BROOM SYMBOL) 8:30-10AM TUES & FRI <-----> (SUPERSEDED BY SP-846C) B,P-089988,4,0007 , ,OTHER TIMES (RIDER FOR PARKING RESTRICTED SIGNS - RED/WHITE) B,P-089988,5,0007 , ,1 HOUR PARKING 9AM-7PM EXCEPT SUNDAY (SUPERSEDED BY PS-55C) have overlapping definitions for street section with same distance from curb, does that mean that in real life these 3 would apply at once? Should they be merged? Overall, for comprehensive output, this seems about 1 day of real work over a period of time with ongoing communication. I placed a bid over range & with time limit that allows for clarifications. If program runs once & undecided output fields are allowed, I can adjust accordingy. br, Taimo
