issue probably related to 'Repainting the DOM' : JQuery Issue related to Append()

see DEMO [login to view URL],js,output My goal is to establish this menu [login to view URL] using jquery and Append(). I seem to have an issue with "Dom Refresh Jquery" or "dom repaint jquery" or "jquery append browser reflow". I aim to establish a "new Menu-Structure" by appending elements - This is mandatory for my project. I cannot create new html-tags right inside the document. The only opportunity I have is to inject the additional html-tags via jquery. And that is what I did. It seems the closing /main-Tag is not regarded. I seem to need to refresh the DOM? At least that is my closest guess to why the error does appear. See further info inside the DEMO
