I need a lighting expert. I have a movie scene that was shot with inadequate light, which resulted in a potent light source on the left from the window but deep black shadow on the right. This has already been improved, but this is what Chat GPT recommended be done from here. Please read it, and if you think you can do those things, respond. It's about 4 1/2 minutes. I am not looking to do something frame by frame because there are 24 frames per second, and that would take forever. I can spend $200 on this. Is anyone interested? Yes — your editor did improve it quite a bit. The frame is much more usable now. Bonnie’s face, hair, arm, desk, and props are all readable, and the shot no longer feels “lost.” But I do think more can still be done, especially because the current correction has a few side effects: What is working now The exposure on Bonnie is acceptable. Her profile reads clearly, and the window light gives the shot a natural motivation. The mood is quiet and serious, which fits a phone-call/study-room scene. What still looks problematic The image has a cold bluish-gray cast over almost everything. That may be intentional, but it makes the room feel a little lifeless. The left window area is blown out, but that is probably not worth fighting too much. It can be allowed to stay bright since it motivates the light. The right wall is still a big, flat gray mass. It is not as ugly as the black corner you had before, but it still draws attention because it is empty and has very little detail. Bonnie’s face could use a little more local warmth and contrast. Not a huge change — just enough so she feels like the emotional center of the frame. What I would ask your editor to try next I would not brighten the whole frame more. That could make it milky. Instead, I would use selective correction: Mask Bonnie’s face, hair, and upper body Lift exposure slightly. Add a little warmth. Add a touch of midtone contrast. Avoid making the skin look waxy or overprocessed. Add a very subtle vignette or gradient on the right wall Not black, just slightly darker and more shaped. The goal is to make that wall recede instead of feeling like a big blank screen. Reduce the blue/cyan cast a little Especially in the skin and the desk. The scene can stay cool, but right now it may be a bit too icy. Protect the window Do not try too hard to recover it. Let it remain a bright source, but make sure it does not bleed too much into the rest of the image. Add a little texture/contrast to the desk and background Just enough to avoid the “lifted shadow” look. The danger with underexposed footage is that when you raise it, the image becomes gray instead of lit. My main note would be: don’t make it brighter overall; make it more sculpted. The shot now needs shaping more than exposure. Bonnie should be gently pulled forward, and the right side of the room should be pushed back.

Hello, I can help you enhance the lighting in your scene to create a warmer, more inviting atmosphere. My plan is to adjust the color balance to reduce the cold bluish-gray tones while maintaining the overall mood of the shot. I’ll focus on selectively warming up areas that feel flat, particularly around Bonnie, to bring out more life without making it feel unnatural. This way, we can keep the seriousness of the scene while improving its visual appeal. In a recent project, I worked on a similar lighting issue where the initial color grading left a scene looking too cold. By refining the color tones, I was able to create a more cohesive and engaging visual that resonated better with the audience, leading to a much more effective final product. What outcome are you really hoping to see from this? Ramandeep K.

You’re not looking for a frame-by-frame rescue; you need a consistent, trackable lighting correction across the full 4½-minute scene that keeps Bonnie readable, preserves the window motivation, and avoids lifted, gray-looking shadows. The key question is: does the shot remain mostly locked, or do Bonnie and the camera move enough that the face, body, and right-wall corrections will need frequent mask tracking and manual intervention? That determines whether the full scene can be improved cleanly within your $200 budget without creating flicker, drifting masks, or an overprocessed look. Hi! I read your full notes on the scene — the current correction improved Bonnie's readability but left a cold bluish-gray cast, a flat empty right wall, and needs more "sculpting" rather than overall brightening: masking Bonnie's face/hair/upper body for lifted exposure + warmth + midtone contrast, a subtle shaped vignette to push the right wall back, reducing the blue/cyan cast, protecting the blown-out window, and adding light texture to the desk/background so it doesn't look "lifted" and gray. This is a precise color grading job, not a frame-by-frame fix, and I fully agree with that approach. **Price/turnaround:** $200 USD, delivered within 2–3 days. Happy to do a quick test grade on one frame first so you can confirm direction before I commit to the full scene. Ready to start! Best, Md Mominul S. (@DataSoftExpertiS)

Hi there. I have read the ChatGPT recommendations carefully. To clarify – do you have the previously corrected version, or should I work from the raw underexposed source? Here is my workflow for your scene: 1. Analyze the frame and plan selective corrections based on your notes 2. Create a dynamic mask for Bonnie's face, hair, and upper body using tracking (no frame-by-frame work) 3. Lift exposure slightly on the mask, add warmth and midtone contrast without making skin waxy 4. Apply a subtle vignette/gradient on the right wall to make it recede – not black, just shaped 5. Reduce the blue/cyan cast globally while protecting skin tones and the desk area 6. Add texture and contrast to the desk and background to avoid the "lifted shadow" look 50+ color grading projects completed, 5-star rated – I specialize in selective grading and shot shaping. Check my portfolio for similar work. I will edit the full 4.5-minute scene with a watermark as a free sample – you only pay if you are satisfied. I also include a free consultation call to review the first pass and adjust the sculpting direction before final delivery. For the right wall gradient, do you want it to fade from the center outward, or from the right edge inward toward Bonnie?

I carefully reviewed your notes, and I agree with the overall direction. I would not attempt a frame-by-frame repair for a 4½-minute clip. Instead, I would use professional color grading and tracking tools in DaVinci Resolve (or comparable software) to apply tracked power windows, secondary color corrections, and selective masks that automatically follow Bonnie throughout the shot. The focus would be on gently warming and shaping Bonnie's face and upper body, reducing the cold cyan cast, protecting the bright window without chasing every highlight, adding subtle contrast and texture to the lifted shadows, and using soft gradients to help the right wall recede naturally. The goal is to create a more cinematic image through light shaping rather than simply increasing brightness, while avoiding an overprocessed or artificial appearance. One additional question: is this scene a single continuous shot, or are there multiple camera cuts within the 4½ minutes that would require separate grading passes? Bryson.

Hi We’ll fix the cold bluish-gray cast and sculpt the shot without milky over-brightening, using After Effects for selective correction. We’ve spent the last 10 years solving exactly this type of underexposed window-light scene where the left window blows out and the right side turns into a flat gray mass. We’ll mask Bonnie’s face, hair, and upper body, lift exposure slightly, add warmth and subtle midtone contrast, protect the window from bleed, then reduce blue/cyan in skin and desk while adding gentle texture/contrast to avoid the lifted-shadow look. For depth, we’ll apply a subtle vignette/gradient on the right wall (not black, just shaped) so it recedes and Bonnie feels like the emotional center. Best regards, Zeeshan

✨ CINEMATIC LIGHTING FIX — SELECTIVE COLOR & SHOT SHAPING ✨ Hi! I can help improve this 4.5-minute scene without doing frame-by-frame manual work. The notes you shared are exactly the right direction: not making the whole shot brighter, but shaping the image so Bonnie becomes the emotional focus and the right wall recedes naturally. I’m confident this can be handled through professional color correction/grading tools using masks, tracking, power windows, gradients, noise-safe shadow work, and selective warmth/contrast. Quick Questions: 1️⃣ What editing/color software is the project currently in? 2️⃣ Can you provide the original clip plus the improved version for comparison? 3️⃣ Is the footage 1080p or 4K, and what codec was it shot in? What I’ll Do: ➡️ Reduce the cold blue/cyan cast carefully ➡️ Add subtle warmth and contrast to Bonnie’s face/body ➡️ Shape the right wall with soft gradients/vignette ➡️ Protect the bright window source ➡️ Add controlled texture/contrast to avoid gray lifted shadows ➡️ Keep the correction natural, cinematic, and consistent ➡️ Deliver a graded export within your $200 budget ➤ I can make the scene feel more sculpted, emotional, and professionally lit without overprocessing it. Best Regards Leena

Hi, With extensive experience in color grading, video editing, and cinematic post-production, I can enhance your scene while preserving its intended mood and emotional impact. My focus is on refining lighting, contrast, and color so the image feels more sculpted, balanced, and visually engaging rather than simply brighter. Using tools such as DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, and After Effects, I can subtly shape Bonnie's profile with precise color correction, local contrast, and lighting adjustments while refining the surrounding environment to maintain a cohesive cinematic look. Every enhancement will be carefully applied to draw attention to the emotional focus of the frame without making the grade feel artificial. I believe successful color grading is about storytelling as much as technical precision. Every adjustment will be thoughtfully crafted to strengthen the atmosphere, enhance depth, and create a polished final scene that supports the emotion and visual style of your film. I look forward to helping bring your scene to its full cinematic potential. Neha.
