I am engineering the mechanism for a wheel with scroll and click functions such as the one found in a desktop computer mouse.
What I require is a feasibility study on the proposed manufacturing and assembly processes, to be delivered as a report indicating any possible concerns and recommendations.
The more detailed the report, the better. The objective of the deliverable is as a starting point for communication with manufacturing partners.
It should either confirm with confidence that the mechanism as designed will function according to the specification, or otherwise make recommendations of how to achieve this.
A negative report is also acceptable.
The successful applicant will need a strong background in mechanical engineering, CAD to CAM, and manufacturing of high precision CNC milled components.
The attached file is an early model from the patent application and doesn't reflect the current design, but it gives you some idea. The mechanism involves springs, buttons, a ball bearing and the assembly of several precision milled components which together form a central axle to which a wheel is attached.
There are calibration and assembly steps for each of these parts, as well as maximum tolerance requirements for the fully assembled mechanism and minimum requirements for the ergonomic functionality of the wheel.
The report will need to cover each of these elements. I will provide a full and detailed briefing before we proceed.
