Hi, I'm a student working on an access control system for our school's IT labs. We already have a working prototype and the firmware/software side handled — what I need is a properly designed PCB in KiCad to replace my breadboard version, since PCB design (especially RF and PoE) is outside my expertise. Requirements: PN532 RFID/NFC reader with antenna (on-board trace or module, your recommendation) ESP32-S3 as main MCU Standing/vertical form factor, board size 80mm x 35mm, 2-layer PCB, sized to mount inside a 3D-printed enclosure (mounting holes needed) RJ-45 jack with PoE (802.3af preferred) for network + power — note ESP32-S3 has no built-in Ethernet MAC, so needs an external PHY (e.g. LAN8720) via RMII Relay output for a 12V or 24V door lock, with proper flyback protection and isolation from the logic side Multiple power inputs — 12V DC, 24V DC, or PoE — board should safely handle whichever is connected, with reverse-polarity/overvoltage protection 2x WS2812B RGB LEDs at the bottom of the board, for status indication Deliverables: full KiCad project (schematic + PCB + BOM with sourceable parts), Gerbers for fab, and a pinout doc so I can adapt my existing firmware.

Hi I am an embedded systems engineer with over 16 years of experience. I have designed many KiCad PCBs that combine ESP32-class controllers, Ethernet/PoE power, protected inputs, relays, LEDs, and enclosure-driven layouts, so your school access controller is a good fit. For this board I would first confirm the PN532 choice with you: using a proven module is usually safer on a 2-layer 80mm x 35mm board, while a custom antenna is possible but needs more care. I can then prepare the schematic and PCB around ESP32-S3, external Ethernet PHY, 802.3af PoE power path, 12/24V input protection, isolated relay drive with flyback protection, WS2812B placement, mounting holes, and clear firmware pin mapping. You will receive the full KiCad project, BOM with sourceable parts, Gerbers, and a concise pinout document so you can adapt your existing firmware without confusion. Please contact me to discuss details.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Your project is well thought out, and since the firmware is already working, I can focus on turning your breadboard prototype into a reliable, production-ready KiCad PCB while keeping your existing pin assignments as intact as possible. I'll design a compact 80 × 35 mm, 2-layer board with the ESP32-S3, PN532 interface, PoE-powered Ethernet, protected 12V/24V power inputs, relay driver with flyback protection, and WS2812B status LEDs. I'll also optimize the layout for manufacturability, signal integrity, and easy assembly inside your 3D-printed enclosure. Milestones: Schematic review & component selection PCB layout & routing ERC/DRC verification Gerbers, BOM, pinout guide & final KiCad project A couple of questions: • Are you planning to use an external Ethernet controller (such as W5500) or do you already have a preferred Ethernet solution? • Do you already have the enclosure dimensions and mounting-hole locations, or should I help define them? I'd be happy to help you turn your prototype into a professional PCB that's ready for fabrication.

Hi there, This is a very clear embedded hardware project, and the important part is designing the PCB so it is not just a breadboard replacement, but something reliable enough for real access-control use inside an enclosure. I can help create the full KiCad schematic and PCB layout around the ESP32-S3, PN532 RFID/NFC reader, Ethernet/PoE section, relay lock output, protected multi-input power design, and WS2812B status LEDs. For the PN532 antenna, I can recommend whether an onboard trace antenna or tested module is the safer route based on your enclosure constraints, RF reliability, and fabrication tolerance. I’ll pay particular attention to PoE power design, RMII routing for the external Ethernet PHY, relay isolation and flyback protection, reverse-polarity/overvoltage protection, clean power rails, mounting holes, and the vertical 80mm × 35mm board constraint. The final package will include the KiCad project, schematic, PCB layout, BOM with sourceable parts, Gerbers, and a clear pinout document so your existing firmware can be adapted easily. But im a bit curious about — do you already have preferred parts/modules for the PoE PD controller, RJ-45 magnetics, and PN532 reader, or should I select reliable sourceable components for the BOM? Best regards, Laiba

Hey, your access control PCB will be designed as a reliable, production ready KiCad project with careful attention to PoE, Ethernet, RF layout, and power management, ensuring it integrates seamlessly with your existing firmware and enclosure. I'll develop the complete schematic, PCB layout, BOM, Gerber files, and documentation, optimizing the design for signal integrity, manufacturability, and safe operation across all supported power inputs while keeping the board within your specified dimensions. I have experience designing embedded electronics and custom PCBs with a strong focus on clean layouts, robust power distribution, and practical designs that move smoothly from prototype to fabrication. One quick question: Are you planning to use an ESP32-S3 module for RF certification, or would you prefer the ESP32-S3 chip integrated directly onto the PCB?

Hello, Your project is well defined, and I'd be happy to help transform your working prototype into a professional KiCad PCB. I understand that the firmware and software are already completed, so my focus will be on creating a reliable, manufacturable hardware design. I will carefully design the schematic and PCB while considering component placement, power integrity, signal routing, relay isolation, and mechanical constraints for your 80 × 35 mm enclosure. My design approach includes: - Creating a clean KiCad schematic based on your prototype. - Designing a compact 2-layer PCB with proper mounting holes. - Integrating the ESP32-S3, PN532 interface, Ethernet, power circuitry, relay driver, and WS2812B LEDs. - Reviewing power distribution, protection circuits, and PCB manufacturability. - Providing a complete KiCad project, Gerber files, BOM with readily available components, and a pinout document to simplify firmware integration. Before starting, I'd like to review your existing prototype schematic and enclosure dimensions to ensure the final PCB matches your hardware and mechanical requirements. I look forward to working with you and helping bring your prototype to a production-ready PCB. Best regards, Qodamu

Hi, I'm Anindya, a Robotics & Embedded Systems Engineer with hands-on PCB design experience — happy to take the RF and PoE side off your plate so you can focus on firmware. This is a well-thought-out spec, and I can turn it into a clean 2-layer KiCad design to replace your breadboard setup. Approach: PN532 with on-board trace antenna if your 80x35mm footprint allows, otherwise a module for reliable RF performance ESP32-S3 + LAN8720 PHY over RMII for Ethernet, with PoE (802.3af) via a PD controller and isolated DC-DC stage Relay output for your door lock with flyback protection and optocoupler isolation from logic Input protection so that 12V DC, 24V DC, or PoE can all be safely applied 2x WS2812B placed per your layout Mounting holes matched to your enclosure I'll give the PoE/Ethernet and relay sections the isolation and trace care they need — that's usually where boards run into trouble at fab. Deliverables: Full KiCad project (schematic + PCB) BOM with sourceable parts (Digi-Key/Mouser/LCSC) Gerbers are ready for fab Pinout doc to map to your existing firmware Feel free to share your breadboard schematic or pin assignments — helps keep your code mostly drop-in compatible. Happy to answer any questions before starting. Best, Anindya
