General Concept: We're looking for a mobile-device friendly, searchable webpage to allow our field staff to look up pricing. For security reasons, this needs to only be accessible to our users through their Google Apps Domain login.
Data: We need to be able to upload new datasets on a weekly basis. The dataset would be about 50,000 records, and is provided as a text file of 9 columns, fixed-width fields, and no column headers. The fields would be 4 separate product descriptions (representing 4 text lines), a 1-7 digit product ID number, two price labels, and two prices. (Generally we show a list price and a resale price. However, down the road we may need to show a different set of prices.)
Security/Login: We need the prices to only be accessible to our users, through our Google Apps domain. Also, I will not be able to provide direct access to our Google Apps domain. So the project will need to be loadable by our staff. We can provide access to a sandbox domain to see the project before loading to the production domain.
Search Methods: Our users are already used to searching for segments of the products, separated by spaces. We'd like to retain this ability in this system. For example, to search for a "Victorinox 40520 Fibrox", they can type "VIC 405".
Results Display: If the user receives multiple matches to their search, only product description #1 would need to be displayed for each of the matches. Then the user could click on the appropriate product to see the final price display. (Note that if the user's search has only a single match, it's fine to still go through a results screen. Otherwise, it could go directly to the matched result.)
Price Display: Attached is a mockup of the final display. It shows how the fields could be arranged. Note that there's a large space toward the top. This is intentional to allow for Google's top-navigation bar.
