Mobile App Development: Combing food & Social Media

Hello all! The project is about creating a mobile app for college students that will suggest users recipes according to food items that the user already has, and will provide recipe recommendations personalized to the individual's tastes, semantic recipe search and shopping list. There will be a little pinch of social media in it. Read below to know: DESCRIBING THE PROBLEM: A recent study has shown that a great majority of university students residing in hostels and apartments tend to live on an improper diet. Living away from the parents gives one the chance to become more independent and more mature; however, it seems that this experience may also push one to neglect his or her own health. On the other side, it has been seen that loneliness affects people of all ages and backgrounds. Research carried out by the Red Cross found that 32 percent of young people (16-24 year olds) in the UK reported that they had often or always felt lonely in the previous two weeks. The Royal Society for Public Health’s report '#StatusofMind' found that exposure to social media increased the likelihood of young people feeling lonely. What if we could tackle both problems with one solution? What if there exists a social media that can beat loneliness through food? What if you no longer have to eat an unhealthy meal alone in your room? THE SOLUTION: We all know that there already exists great food-related apps on playstore such as Tasty, Yummly or Tastemade. So how will this app be different? The app will also have this feature: Social Media Platform : Users have the possibility to ask for a missing food item of the recipe from his/her neighbour living in the same building. The user can also invite another student for a meal through an ‘Invite’ button in the app. As simple as that! For a start, I will only be needing a demo. That is, the app can be programmed such that it shows only the features it has. It will not use wifi to work. There will be no interaction between users. It will be only like a trailer that will be installed on only one mobile. Note: I will send the project proposal individually for those interested in the project.
