Many of the company's email users need to send large email attachments to inside/outside recipients. Allowing Users to send large attachments will unnecessarily consume the resources of the email server, particularly storage and processor. Also the large attachments will most likely be rejected by the destination email server since it’s a common best practice in enterprise email services not to allow large attachments.
Currently users who need to send large attachments use either free internet file sharing services or free internet email services. Both methods have their limitations and risks.
- Create a Microsoft Outlook Add-in which appears like an icon on the toolbar
- When a user needs to send a large attachment, he clicks on the icon, selects the file that he needs to send as an attachment, and then clicks OK (presuming there is a dialogue box with OK button )
- The code beneath the OK button will do the following:
1- Copy the selected file to a web server (i.e. SharePoint server) in DMZ;
2-Create a unique URL for the file;
3-Add the URL to the body of the email message (without changing message format)
-When the recipient receives the message, he just clicks on the URL in the message and downloads the attachment.
