Design review of an industrial data-acquisition system — Stage 1 Safe Instrumentación (SFI), Bogotá, Colombia, designs modular data-acquisition hardware for geotechnical and structural instrumentation installed on bridges, hydroelectric plants and pipelines, at sites up to 4,000 m above sea level. SFI has a bench-validated four-board prototype: a main controller with cellular and sub-GHz radio, isolated RS-485 and native USB; two near-identical sensor front ends, each with its own MCU, for inclination and for a long temperature chain of up to 200 sensors on a shared bus; and a carrier board for a purchased vibrating-wire module with its own high-voltage protection chain. Part numbers are released under NDA. SFI has consolidated that work into a detailed design document — pin-by-pin connections, five switched power domains with current limits, coordinated protection chains with part numbers, and layout rules. That document, together with the schematics, is the input to this contract. This contract is a design review only. USD 1,000 fixed, two to three weeks. Scope: Review and optimise the schematics of the four boards, and close the component values and packages that SFI has left marked as open. Verify and strengthen input protection against the stated target of IEC 61000-4-x Level 4: ESD, surge and EFT; galvanic isolation on RS-485; reverse polarity and overcurrent. Review the power architecture: the permanent 2S LiFePO4 battery bus, the five switched domains and their current limiting, low-power modes, and the power budget per operating mode. Note: there is no dynamic source switching — the external DC input only recharges. Assess creepage and clearance on the high-voltage sensor channels against IEC 60664-1, including the altitude correction factor for installations up to 4,000 m. Verify that the RF module manufacturers' integration guides are respected, so the modules' pre-certification is not invalidated. Deliver a written report justifying each finding against the specific standard or clause that supports it, plus marked-up schematics and the layout constraints Stage 2 must respect. Not in this contract: firmware (SFI develops it), PCB layout and manufacturing files (Stage 2, contracted separately, first option to the Stage 1 supplier), and certification or laboratory testing. SFI does not require an FCC ID or a CE technical file in the bidder's name. SFI requires an engineer who can name the standards applied and defend the decisions taken against them. Schedule. SFI releases the input package approximately one week after this posting. Bids are evaluated during that week and the award is made when the package is ready. How to bid. Download the attached Terms of Reference and Qualification Questionnaire and return it completed. A bid consisting only of a price will not be evaluated. Name the individual engineer who will do the work; that person must attend a 30-minute video call, camera on, where the answers will be revisited. SFI has no objection to AI-assisted drafting, but an answer the engineer cannot defend in that call is treated as not given. SFI will reply to every bidder, including those not selected.

Hi, I understand that Stage 1 is a design review of four industrial data-acquisition boards used for geotechnical and structural monitoring. I will review the schematics, open component values and packages, protection circuits, isolated RS-485, power domains, battery operation, current limits, and low-power modes. I will also check creepage and clearance for the high-voltage sensor channels at 4,000 m altitude, along with the RF module integration rules. The review will be based on the provided design documents and applicable IEC requirements, including IEC 61000-4-x and IEC 60664-1. I will provide a clear report explaining each finding, marked-up schematics, and practical layout rules for Stage 2. I understand that firmware, PCB layout, manufacturing files, certification, and lab testing are outside this stage. I can also attend the camera-on technical call and explain every design decision clearly. Which IEC 61000-4-x test levels, waveform details, and installation overvoltage category should I use for each external interface? Thank you for considering my proposal.

Hi, I am an electronics and PCB design engineer experienced in industrial MCU systems, RS-485 isolation, protection circuits, low-level sensor interfaces, power architecture, and production design reviews. I can review the four-board system against IEC 61000-4-x protection requirements, IEC 60664-1 creepage/clearance, RF-module integration rules, and practical DFM/EMC constraints. The supplied Terms of Reference confirms that Stage 1 is design review only, including schematic optimisation, protection, power budgeting, altitude-related clearance, RF integration, and a standards-based written report. Approach: ✅ I will review all four schematics, close open component values/packages, and verify ESD, surge, EFT, reverse-polarity, overcurrent, and RS-485 isolation. ✅ I will check the 2S LiFePO4 power architecture, five switched domains, current limits, low-power modes, and prepare the operating-mode power budget. ✅ I will review creepage/clearance for 4,000 m altitude, RF-module integration constraints, and provide marked-up schematics plus Stage-2 layout requirements. Questions: ✅ Will the complete KiCad schematics, BOM, RF integration guides, operating envelope, and validation records be available immediately after NDA? ✅ Has the final operating temperature range and enclosure/IP rating already been fixed? ✅ Do you want the two similar sensor front ends reviewed as one common platform with BOM variants or as separate boards? Best, Yaroslav

This is a strong fit, and I’d start with the highest-risk workflow first. For a Industrial Data-Acquisition System Design Review -- 2, the hard part is balancing sensor scanning accuracy, battery life, Bluetooth/SIM fallback, and OTA-ready embedded reliability. My approach would be to validate the sensor matrix and power budget first, then design the acquisition PCB, embedded firmware, connectivity fallback, and OTA/admin controls in staged prototypes. Quick question: What is already available for Industrial Data-Acquisition System Design Review -- 2: a working codebase, designs, data, or only the brief? Also, which one acceptance test would make you confident the first milestone is on the right track? Best, Dr. Syafiq

Hi, I’ve read the project requirements carefully, and I understand that Stage 1 is focused on a detailed hardware design review of the four boards, not PCB layout. I can review the schematics, power architecture, protection circuits, RS-485 isolation, component values/packages, and the high-voltage creepage/clearance requirements. I can also review the RF module integration against the manufacturers’ guidelines and provide marked-up schematics and clear layout constraints for Stage 2. I’m comfortable working with STM32/ESP32-based hardware, RS-485, power management, protection circuits, and multi-board industrial designs using KiCad and Altium. For the standards-based findings, I would review the provided requirements and applicable clauses carefully and document the reasoning behind each recommendation rather than treating this as a simple schematic check. Please check my portfolio for similar industrial PCB and hardware design projects. I am ready to start immediately. Best regards, Ahmed

Hi, Bojan here, from Serbia. Building your industrial data-acquisition system design review with 4,000 m above sea and 200 sensors comes down to one thing: a device that behaves the same in the field as on the bench. I'm a senior embedded and electronics engineer with 8+ years of experience working with PCB Layout, Electronics, Electrical Engineering and STM32. For your industrial data-acquisition system design review, the real challenge is timing, power and real conditions. A common issue: testing only on the bench, so problems appear once the device runs in real conditions. My plan: first, review the schematic, pin map and timing requirements. Then, write the firmware in small modules, each tested on the board. Finally, test on the real hardware under load, power loss and bad signal. I've done firmware work in STM32. A few questions to better understand the scope: 1. Will it run near motors or long cables? Noise there corrupts readings, so I test early. 2. Use the vendor HAL except where timing is tight? I'd recommend it, it's easier to change later. 3. Is this heading to production after the prototype? Then parts and code stay ready for production. I can start right away. Happy to go over the details here in chat and suggest the best approach. Looking forward to hearing from you, Bojan

1) Clause-by-clause IEC 61000-4-x Level 4 protection review (ESD/surge/EFT) for each board block: input, isolation, HV sensor chain, RS-485, reverse polarity & overcurrent. 2) Power architecture assessment of 2S LiFePO4 + five switched domains: current limits, low-power modes, and per-mode budget; confirm recharge-only behavior. 3) IEC 60664-1 creepage/clearance check with 4,000 m altitude correction on the vibrating-wire/high-voltage channels, plus RF module integration-guide compliance to avoid invalidating pre-cert. I’ll review SFI’s Stage-1 detailed design pack (pin-by-pin schematics, open component values/packages, layout rules) and provide a written justification referencing the exact standard clauses that support each finding, with marked-up schematics and constraints Stage 2 must follow. Firmware/PCB layout/certification are excluded, so the output stays focused on design correctness and defensibility in your required engineer video call.

I will review your four-board industrial data-acquisition system design document, and identify areas for improvement. The controller board needs to handle cellular and sub-GHz radio, also RS-485 and USB, so I will check the power sequencing and signal integrity for these interfaces, especially the RF components and the USB 2.0 lines. The sensor front ends each have an MCU for inclination and a long temperature chain of up to 200 sensors on a shared bus, and I will review the MCU selection, memory allocation, and the bus arbitration for the temperature sensors to prevent data collisions. The vibrating-wire module carrier board with its high-voltage protection needs careful examination of the protection circuitry and the interface to the main controller. I would assume the core software for data acquisition and communication protocols on the MCUs is largely finalized, and will focus on the hardware integration and potential issues arising from it, until you provide otherwise. Track record on here: 5.0 across 10 reviews, 100% on time and 100% on budget. What are the environmental operating temperature and humidity specifications for these boards? I will provide a report detailing my findings, highlighting potential issues and recommending specific design modifications.

Design review must “name the standards applied and defend the decisions taken.” I’m Roger Montoya, an IoT/embedded engineer specializing in wireless & sensor integration, and I will perform a defensible Stage 1 schematic review of SFI’s four-board modular system (controller with cellular + sub-GHz, isolated RS-485, native USB; twin sensor front ends; carrier for the vibrating-wire module with HV protection). I’ll close open BOM items (values/packages) using your pin-by-pin schematics, and I will verify input protection targets aligned to IEC 61000-4-x Level 4 (ESD, surge, EFT), including reverse polarity and overcurrent, plus validate RS-485 galvanic isolation. I will assess the power architecture (2S LiFePO4 permanent bus, five switched domains, current limits, low-power modes and per-mode budgets) and creepage/clearance on the high-voltage sensor channels using IEC 60664-1 with altitude correction up to 4,000 m.

How do we prove SFI’s Stage-1 industrial DAQ boards are robust against real-world electrical stress? I’ll audit your four-board schematics pin-by-pin, closing open packages/values and verifying IEC 61000-4-x Level 4 targets: ESD, surge, and EFT; along with RS-485 galvanic isolation, reverse-polarity protection, and overcurrent/current-limit behavior across five switched domains on the permanent 2S LiFePO4 bus (no dynamic source switching—external DC only recharges). I’ll also assess the HV vibrating-wire sensor channel creepage/clearance per IEC 60664-1 with 4,000 m altitude correction, and confirm the RF module integration guide constraints so pre-certification isn’t invalidated. You’ll receive a written report tying each finding to specific standard clauses, plus marked-up schematics and Stage-2 layout constraints.
