We're looking for a commited team willing to establish a long term relationship as our site continues to grow, we'll continually need a proramming team to work with.
We're going to be needing web developers, designers, editors...the whole lot.
We'll be redesigning most of the site, changing colour schemes. Adding new, more useful features to the site...
Brief Requirments :
The whole plan is to rebuild this site, keeping all exising features and adding more. Changing, table designs to DIVs and making the site more interactive.
Music features are to include being able to add other user's music to your playlist if the owner has chosen for it to be shared. Being able to play music without visiting a profile and compile a playlist on a single page. A new podcast syndication will be included of user's music. Ability for users to record their music or podcast and syndicate it from their profile.
Videos...uers will be able to add embed codes from youtube etc and this video shows up in the general video search area. Videos that are uploaded will be converted on the fly and be available immediately after upload is finished. All uploads, videos, music, photo etc should be done via ftp instead of http at allow large uploads. ffmpeg will be available.
similar changes will be needed for the event, polls, blogs, classifieds and just about everything else... In terms of a user's profile it needs to be highly modifiable. they must be able to drag and drop sections to where they want it and be able to add new "boxes" or tabs and insert html snippets or widgets and they work with no other changes needed, an example of this is the way in which bebo has implemented their users profile pages.
The new site will use AJAX as much as possible.
The development team that is hired will need to make use of firefox's firebug and yslow plugins. The aim is to have pages graded as C or above with load times of 3 seconds or less (dedicated servers will be used). When the redesign is being done links need to be changed to use mod_rewrite. The extenstion can only be .htm,.html or a directory style structure eg [url removed, login to view]
While using firebug and yslow a custom ruleset can be chosen to remove the requirement for CDN as the site will not use a CDN until further growth is accomplished.
Java, Shockwave and Flash developers? We need virtual world games and RPGs, an example of these would be facebook's yoville... there is also the infamous mafia wars and vampire wars. Games like these will be needed. Any activity in these games must be seemlessly integrated into the rest of the site and everything must perform as one... The use of opensource code and whole projects is welcomed as long as it is seemlessly integrated.
It might be an idea to develop each bit into seperate modules running under one domain or seperate subdomains ie [url removed, login to view] or [url removed, login to view] etc etc.
A secondary part to the whole project will be the addition of a news section. In this section a CMS such as joomla will be set up and news content will be imported every hour on the hour from sources that we're currently trying to get deals with. The only development or modification that will be needed is to setup joomla and build a bridge between it and the rest of the site is allowing members of the site to sign into joomla and leave comments on news items etc without registering on joomla or signing in after they've signed into the main site.
This is a massive project and we'll need dedicated people for it, we are totally open to suggestions on new features and ideas. As you'll be developing, if i have an idea that is unrealistic then of course you need to let me know and likewise, if you're doing something i don't want then i'll let you know. Any new feature suggestion will be taken into account and included if i think it will be useful for the site's users.
As you can see this is only a brief outline and it is a heck of a lot for a briefing. This project may go on for a while depending on who is hired and if they already have a development team to work with and the size of that team... What we're essentially looking for is a team to deal with over the coming months to make this project a reallity. Payment terms are negotiable depending on the work and will be made on a monthly basis until the project is finished. The monthly payment terms is also negotiable. Once a team is agreed and the project gets on the way, i'll need to see a plan of what is going to be happening and the time frame. Once i've agreed the plan then that gurantees you'll be paid for it on completion, i can't really do much with unfinished modules so anything started must be completed otherwise it won't be paid for. Once i've agreed a plan if i change my mind you still get paid for that.
Those will be the basic terms, if anyone is interested and want to have a go then by all means reply to this post
A detailed contract will be drawn up with both my terms and yours once an agreement is made.
The coding must be efficient and preferably object oriented for php 5.x.x. This is to ensure scalability as our site is growing and needs stable, reliably code. To give you an idea of the type of growth, over the last 3 days we've had to set up 3 more dedicated servers and a second mysql server. This makes it 5 Dedicated server we now have running as a small network to manage the increased users that we've had. Of course while this is being done, we cannot afford any downtime so testing and dev will be done under a different domain using a database copy and copied files.
